What? Crown Zenith wasn’t upstaged by either of those. BBWF isn’t even the same kind of special set. Prismatic overshadowed nothing and has been seen as a shit set since the start with no hits besides SARs that no one pulls. On top of that, most of the SARs have tera hats on them.
151 CZ and Evo unfortunately.
Also I think it’s fun that the two most popular sets of the SV Era do not contain a single Pokemon from the SV Era.
I feel like 151 almost stands on its own (similar to destined rivals) because the set theme is so strong. Other couple sets could be a toss up between most of the ones mentioned above it seems. I hated opening Evolving Skies (I seriously ripped way too much) and I can’t imagine most people’s experience was much different due to the awful pull rates, but it does have some really nice full arts, so I’m not sure how those two balance out in the long run.
That market has already spoken:
- 151
- Evolving Skies
- Team up
i am a VSTAR Universe truther and i will not be silenced. hear me roar.
outside of VSU, it’s gotta be Dream League and as much as I hate to admit it, 151.
I love that Japanese set over all others. I respect you throwing JPN in the chat!
which 2?
I don’t think there can be a top three modern ‘classic’ set list, from a future standpoint.
Our current modern sets will just be broken up and considered as individual pieces as time moves on, just as no-one directly compares HGSS/BW/XY/SM sets against each other now (even though they were the sets of the 2010’s), nobody will necessarily be lumping SwSh/SV/WiWa sets into direct competition with one another in ten years’ time.
Best sets of the 2020’s so far though:
151
Crown Zenith
Destined Rivals
I tend to agree. I don’t think sets released in the early 2020s are all that special if you look at them in a vacuum. But they will probably be some of the most memorable modern sets because they were released during a very ‘memorable’ time
Probably …controversial… Prismatic Evolutions and Journey Together.
I’d say those got so much hype it was unreal
This is my take as well. I actually think most Sword/Shield sets are very overrated, including Evolving Skies, but you have to look at them in the context of the shift that was taking place in Pokémon.
Also, most people coming back then did not come back to make money. They came back because they liked Pokémon (again).
So did Champions Path but no one will consider that as a set to remember. Current hype does not equate the future
Yeah, those late 2020 sets were a reminder that not everything in Pokémon turns into gold.
Seems like a lot of people are defining ‘classic’ as something tied to their subjective opinion/preference. I won’t do that. I’ll take it as, if I offered the average TCG fan one pack from any modern set as of 2026, what do I think they pick.
Evolving Skies
Team Up
Ascended Heroes
151 (iffy on this one, but I can’t deny the power of gen wunner nostalgia)
Eevee Heroes is the only set out of recent years that will considered a classic. while i think stuff like VSU and 151 are amazing sets, they will be redone over and over again. Yes, they could do another eevee set in the future and have multiple special arts of all of them again, but that’s more specific and less likely than another high class pack with a bunch of special arts or another kanto set
I kind of agree with this. Also, the box looks amazing. One of my favourite products, and one of the exceptions where I bought a Japanese box.
The weird part is though, that in a market where almost anything goes up, this box doesn´t move at all.
Only 151
