Massive print runs, huge gem rates, mainstream sealed investing, full arts, bulk holos etc etc
I think you underestamate the power of gambling. Most people will hit nothing, but that doesn´t mean they don´t want the box/pack.
Aside from that, the box also becomes a collectable.
Tell me you invested in Evo Skies without telling me you invested in Evo Skies ![]()
Yeah, this debate has been done a lot too. Let´s just say, the average Pokétuber/fan knows a lot about the last three era´s, including Sun & Moon. XY and older very rarily get´s mentioned.
Definitely, but I actually am a lot more into Lost Origin ; )
Ahh, so your question is just a rephrased ‘which modern box will be most stonkable’ lol, not which will be thought of as a classic set.
To take it to an extreme, imagine a set with a million dollar card seeded at 1 in 100,000 boxes, every other card in the set is blank. Stonkable box, terrible set.
Haha, no not really. It´s more of a, what will be the most remembered sets. It´s not about investing.
Got it, maybe I’m just being pedantic lol. Evolving Skies is definitely memorable, but I think it’s one of those sets where people’s memory is influenced by its price.
Yeah, definitely. These days, Pokémon is difficult to separate from money. But, to me it´s more about why a set is cool. I would be lying if I said I didn´t think about money too, but I don´t buy sets (mostly) for this reason. I first have to like them.
From a classic standpoint:
- 151
- Crown Zenith (good set and the last with yellow borders) (for now*)
- Celebrations
From a stonk/gambler premium standpoint:
- 151
- Prismatic Evolutions
- Evolving Skies
For me from a strictly this set looks glorious standpoint and not monetary i would vote for.
-
151 classic fantastic gorgeous art and nostalgia to the max.
-
Crown Zenith the art in this set cant be beat. So so so much fantastic art and it was a joy to open and get hits left and right. People will remember this set fondly. And last yellow boarder set.
-
Journey Together - Probably unpopular but i think this little set is a gem. Its not overwhelming to completely at a time when many sets won’t even fit in binders. The card art itself has a great theme and for me its just a happy little set thats not expensive to complete.
-
Destined Rivals- I was super disappointed when they passed up on bringing back the dark mons, but the art and pokemon selection was great, the theme was was pretty damn solid but it will be at the bottom of my list cause i will forever be bitter about not having dark mons.
I think JT and DR will fare worse then 151 and CZ cause people are not going to fondly remember sets they could hardly get product for. JT might fare a bit better cause you can grt product for it occasionally at MSRP but for those who are sharply leaning towards monetary value only will also skip this set since it has no massive “hits”.
Is D&P when holos lost steam? They still had cosmos. The art isn’t quite as good of course with CGI rearing its ugly head.
Celebrations is actually a good shout. In the end, people want to get hits and even with the massive print run the Charizard is already at $180. Obviously a lot higher than the rest, but they are mostly iconic cards/Pokemon which helps.
I have looked at each set as they emerged, and been left …Meh…, but as a Gen1 binder bloke that’s hardly surprising. I think the popularity of 151 says a bit as well.
If anything I’d be thinking the SIR/ Alt Art/ full art cards as a grouping rather than any particular set. Just my humble thoughts.
I can feel the arthritis starting to set in
I guess I’m wondering why people are saying that 151 is up there? When it came out it literally sat on the shelves for ages because no one bought it. People didn’t like it. Am I the only one who remembers this?
It only started getting hyped because when the boom happened it was the only thing on the shelves that scalpers could buy so then they raised the prices and people (YouTubers) were like “tHe MArKeT iS sLeEpiNg oN 151”
Am I trippin rn?
Edit: I realized I didn’t answer the question. I think, unfortunately, Evolving Skies will be up there. Not because of the pull rate, but because it was the most widely known when it came out.
I also think that Crown Zenith is a safe option. Great pull rates, great art. Great set.
Idk if I could say a third. 30 years from now could mean that we still have a couple more years of potential ‘classic sets’, so I’m gonna let future Paulkemon come back to this post and write it whenever he thinks he found a good one.
People always loved 151. It’s easy to forget in 2026 but products are supposed to be on store shelves and available to buy.
What? I´m not sure where you got that impression, but everyone in the mainstream communities loved it. It was always dubbed as the reason Pokémon got ´cool´ again (it was in a slump between late 2021 and 2023).
People are saying 151 because betting on blind genwunner loyalty is the safest bet you can make in pokemon
Celebrations was always on my radar too. I liked the set a lot when it came out, because pulling a Charizard, Blastoise or Venusaur is a real possibility.
That, and the set is actually good and fun.
