we didn’t really March or do the traditional military stuff. Our communities are more laid back but when it’s time to work we go to work. Not much time for conventional stuff.
I’m a high school teacher too (English) . . . I also have a side business as a video editor and a background in extreme sports (occasional competitions/events).
I’m a software developer (graduated three years ago). I’ve first worked one year as .NET C# developer at the company I did my graduation internship, making all kind of applications (although I was mainly active for two). Then I got detached for a year to the current company I work for, who make management and law-bound applications for municipalities, where I stayed and am now working for almost two years (including the detached period). So now I primarily do Java web based programming (GWT, Vaadin, Spring, and such) with team members from Sri Lanka (through team chat).
(I’m from The Netherlands myself, btw. And turn 26 in nine days. Maybe somewhat relevant information. )
first time in a while i’ve met somebody else that’s even heard of library sciences, much less actually in the field. i was aiming to get into chapel hill for their five years masters track, but ultimately my lack of applying myself in high school bit me and i didn’t get accepted. unfortunately, the school i wound up at doesn’t offer library sciences in any manner, but such is life.
currently i’m a full time student, majoring in english with minors in tesl & japanese so i’m hoping to teach abroad for some number of years (hit up jet and pay off debt), and then eventually maybe return to library sciences. typically have a summer job of pool technician that is fairly decent money for a couple months as well.
yep, i believe it was an accelerated path for a bachelors in information sciences and a masters in library sciences. also figure it’s better to do something like JET while still young (overall-ish), so hopefully i’ll continue to put in effort in college and do a semester/year abroad in preparation and then get accepted after graduation. ideally. who knows what’ll happen in the coming years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I’m coming up on a decade of service in the Aussie Air Force. I work in a very specific area; I’m responsible for ensuring pilots don’t fly into each other which keeps me quite busy.
I’m also responsible for a large portion of airspace that civil aircraft use frequently, so I dabble in making sure hundreds of thousands of people stay alive in the skies. It’s a great job that differs day to day, and being that I’m in the Air Force they treat us like adults mostly whilst avoiding all the bs that the Army and Navy have to put up with.
I’ve previous worked in Telecommunications, Retail, Construction and Recruitment. I’ve also studied Psychology and Criminology at University. It’s funny how life turns out.
Edit: how could I forget my favourite job?
Loving father to three beautiful children. Whilst parenting is definitely not a “job” I draw parallels with the long hours and shitty pay that I experienced in my slightly earlier years lol
Currently going to school for Electronics Repair/ Electrical Engineering. fund the collection through odd repair/ I.T. Jobs and buying/selling cards and video games (mostly retro)
For now I work as a public school vehicle monitor for Special Ed children; in short I sit on a bus and watch over kids, make sure they're buckled up, and behaving, although I've more recently gotten into BBQing, what with the spices, rubs, and the culinary skills to to handle said meats. I'm actually hoping we can get a potluck going for Worlds next year! I plan on bringing my pulled pork with Spicy Chipotle Mayo
