‘Rillaboom always carries its signature drum with it on its back, and pulls it out when engaged in battle. This bass drum is crafted from a tree stump, with several thick branch stumps protruding from it, which form both the legs of the bass drum as well as mid and high toms. Rillaboom also carries two drumsticks in its cuffs and takes them out to beat its drum.’ - Bulbapedia
Like a Cubone without its bone, Rillaboom without a drum is just a goRilla
For me the Sylveon, Umbreon, and Leafeon ex cards are better than the VMAX alt counterparts (Sylveon and Leafeon V are better than the exs though). For all the other eeveelutions the V or VMAX are superior art pieces.
people have actually found the sources for the tcg backgrounds, and also for many old videogames that used stock images. So yeah, kind of neat. They are japanese stock image CDs from back in the day. I watched some video on it years ago. Which is really neat I think.
While it was not uncommon, and some of them have been known for years, I agree. It’s cool to know the process behind it, and I also want to add, that this was just how it was done.
My dad was a drafter for Hewlett Packard in the 80s and early 90s and that’s just what was done. Whether putting together presentations or manuals, there were books with stock images that then referred to CDs which stored the images. (cuz floppies held about 2 MB of data at best. ). Then later, they’d have “clip art” installed once graphics programs came along. This process was limiting compared to what we have today, and those things were products of the times. They’re not worth less because of it.
Agree, slabs are ugly as hell and make it way harder to make your collection look nice together.
Also Japanese/Chinese cards are so much better than English. I will not buy any Special Illustration Rares in English knowing that they will look considerably worse than they could. It actually bums me out that this is the case.
HG/SS are the games most affected by nostalgia blindness. I see them consistently placed near or at the top of people’s favorites lists, and I don’t understand why.
I mean, sure it’s not a great reimagination of the original. But it’s like when you have leftover pizza, it’s still pizza. HG/SS is still probably in the top 10% of all DS games made
