I agree 100%. There are some older men aged 50+ that Ive personally witnessed being more immature than specific 10 y/o’s. (Todays videos can confirm this sadly) People say times change, and Id be willing to always give anyone a chance if they can prove themselves they can handle it in any given scenario. I also agree with specific restrictions too.
I don’t watch Pokemon YouTubers or streamers and am a happier person because of it.
As a former owner of 2 sets of the Pika Poncho Ray cards I agree. Really wanted them once I got them they were kinda meh, learned I liked them but it wasn’t love
That was me with a majority of set cards, I wanted them so bad… But once I owned them I stopped feelling attached. Almost as if the journey is better than the finish line.
A lot of collectors are like this. They are fueled by the chase of what they don’t yet have. Once they obtain their goal, most of the interest fizzles out and it’s all about the next chase.
If you see a comparison with gamblers chasing wins, there’s a reason…
ex holo 9s would require a million cabals all solely focused on one thing to bring up prices. Its what happens when you introduce new rarity tiers
Watch ZnG’s auctions each week and then tell me that the bubble is only affecting modern. While I wish that were true and vintage would be spared, it just isn’t the case at all.
However, I will agree with you that this bubble is different than COVID. Right now, it seems to be hyperfocused on rarity (e.g., shinings, crystals, gold stars) and, especially, PSA 10 cards with relatively low pop.
I believe a nerfed version could be understandable for people under 16, where nuanced topics with easy to misunderstand issues like grading/valuations or signatures, extra copies ect are all topics that require some nerfing for younger audiences, or some type of post queue for younger/newer members in order to give them more time to learn about those type of topics. I think it’s important e4 remains accessible to everyone, but some things can be easily misunderstood for younger or newer members.
I think its because the average new person in the hobby thinks vintage ex and lv x is just as common as a modern ex pull
I think that its great that this is such a welcoming place for everyone, no matter what age you are. How about a similar system to the want to buy thread restrictions, like you would need to log in to the forum for x number of days before you are allowed to post something. That way at least they show commitment first.
It was just an example. Look at any consigner on eBay or look at Fanatics Collect. So many cards are 3x, 5x, or 10x+ their prices a year ago.
Beyond those vintage examples I provided, you can also look at XY-era chase cards. Those are to the moon and are 10 years old. Wouldn’t exactly call them modern anymore.
Sure, would you like more examples? If you want to see the top cards each week, just search eBay solds by highest price and use 130point or TCGFish to look at historical sales. Hope this helps!
Funny you mentioned this card and don’t think we’re in a bubble as it just ended on Shill&Shill Z&G for this price. Double the previous auction.
As a wise man once said “if you ignore all the cards that aren’t going up then yes, it will look like cards aren’t going up”.
You missed another doubling of that Radiant Flareon RC28. It’s actually over $3k now. ![]()
Generations & Radiant Collection are actually psychotic right now. Take a look at the Generations Zapdos in PSA 10. It was $350 in March. One sold for $1350 last week.
I see what you’re saying. It’s not covid where every card went up a lot. The current bubble is hyper focused on modern and a smaller subset of English vintage i.e. goldstars
watching this card’s price go up has been sad since it’s the last sub 1k mew art I need for my collection, the only one sub 200 I’ve seen for the last like 2 months is one with a terrible crease across the front. waiting for a market crash to hopefully buy that one and the few vintage espeons i wanted that have also ballooned in price
every week the past 5 months i have been shocked
Well sheet, I sold a copy for half that in January of this year…
This is insane, I bought my copy for $32 in 2018. I guess I should have bought more?
