I often think about the percentage of cards printed daily that are energy cards.
rock and ground are the same thing
It seems like nowadays we have tons of random product that doesn’t matter, there’s a lot of flashy garbage that most people will throw away or leave sitting for many years, most people buying product mostly care about the packs and sometimes promo cards inside of a product, there’s not need to make all of these random things when you can just sell them seperatly or even better, not at all
As I have said many times in the past few years, TPCi are run by a bunch of incompetent fools that are propped up by the Pokemon brand. I think it was reported that the decision-making process for printing less of the second set in a generation than the first was “historical precedent” as opposed to what Pokemon featured in it.
It is how they seemingly always end up printing less of the sets in the 2nd/3rd years of each generation despite those sets starting to diversify and including more popular Pokemon.
But there is no pressure to fire or replace them when everything sells out.
Blindly agreeing or following an opinion just because an “authority figure” said it can be dangerous, even in a space like this. We’re fortunate to have a great moderation team on E4 but it’s important to remember they are all just people with their own beliefs and especially livelihoods to look out for.
It is very tempting to just “like post and follow the leader” but it never hurts to take a step back, ask for clarification or politely challenge what is being said here.
Is this a response to anything in particular?
Nothing in particular, just stuff I’ve noticed recently
I think most people here read something for its merit. The reality is someone who is more experienced is usually, not always, going to be right or more accurate. Then again since you didn’t reference anything I don’t know what this is about, which goes back to the first point about analyzing merit.
Yep, I’m sure any community of like-minded people that have serious and long term involvement in something is bound to feel like an echo chamber sometimes. If you’re a regular at a place like E4 you’re in the weeds of the hobby enough that you’re probably going to agree with most people on most things. At least I think anyway.
Here’s my theory on this:
A leader gets power from the people, the people here getting respect only have that because of how they act and post, I do believe that there is some mob mentality to it though where just because everyone else likes this person that probably means that they are a good person and I should like them to just because they are popular, that’s why in my opinion it’s so easy for somebody “popular” or someone of authority to be likable, because they have people who support them without those people they are just an energetic person or someone who is controlling. This is also why singular people get picked out a lot, because they don’t have any people to support them and it’s hard to get into a group or make your own group when you don’t have anything going for yourself in the way of people
I’d agree that many of the longest E4 members are the most knowledgeable and experienced, and there is a good reason why their well-reasoned opinions receive a lot of support here.
My point wasn’t to reference anything specific, just something I’ve noticed lately that the community tends to defer a lot to these members instead of furthering discussion or bringing up their own (counter) points. It’s not a bad thing per se, just something to be mindful of, especially when community members have a vested interest/position (especially financially) in something.
I actually thought about your post and see it more on social media with influencers or wannabe influencers. YouTube is a good example, it’s made for you to follow. The nice thing about E4 is anyone can speak their mind on a level playing field. Obviously no outlet is perfect, but social media puts you at more of a disadvantage.
I think an unpopular opinion I have that agrees with you; just because someone has been in pokemon a long time, doesn’t make them an expert. I know guys who did basically nothing for years, and now that pokemon is hot, they are back again, but acting like they have been grinding for decades. You gotta earn that go touch grass badge!
Oh definitely, that behaviour is much more prevalent on social media where influencers stake their entire livelihood on presenting themselves as “investment” experts and garnering followings.
E4 isn’t perfect but it’s a far cry from a lot of other collecting circles on the internet. What I appreciate here is diversity of thought is encouraged (such as this thread) and rude or unprofessional conduct is looked down upon.
My original post was more meant for food for thought to encourage people to think about what is being said, who is saying it and not hesitate to speak up if there’s something they disagree with.
Yes, I agree with you - @pfm could sneeze and accidentally hit a few keystrokes, and that post would get 50 likes. Down with the rabbit!
Ok, let’s take this one step further
Yes, but only if we held hands and jumped together.
If pfm asked me to jump off a bride I’d ask, how high?
Yes, but only if the bridge was authenticated by CGC
