What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

Unless they get Fukuda to do them all, they’d lack cohesion with the original Gold Stars wouldn’t they?

And Fukuda gave us the great Radiant Pisstoise. He is no Arita. Tag Teams are as good as they are because of Arita. Unfortunately it seems he has also been out of consistent rotation for awhile now.

Radiants suffer from being basically half art 5bans. Random coloured backgrounds and mostly devoid of the artist’s style - kind of like baby shinies.

When i was on the subway to work the other week, some kids were taking it to school (looked like elementary school age) and one kid had a deckbox with cards. They were looking through them and they all instantly started gushing over that kid’s radiant jirachi. In that one moment alone, I knew that radiants were a great introduction.

3 opinions today:

PSA 9 buyers are the most picky and annoying buyers to deal with.

Also they’re the same people that say “I’ve seen weaker 10s” and “i’ve got 9s stronger than some 10s”.

Psa 10 is also over bashed on this forum

i imagine this is probably somewhat unpopular, but i think paradox pokemon are the coolest generational alternative forms (like regional forms, megas, and gmax) we’ve had yet.

yes even the cybertronic future forms with their dumb names.

i only wish there were more

nothing beats this for sure!

while i’m on the subject of gen 9, i’ll also say the treasures of ruin are the coolest sublegendary set of any generation. better than the birds, the beasts, the regis, the lake guardians, the swords, the island guardians, and even the galarian birds (which would be my vote for number 2)

I like Paradox forms too. Ideally they’d have a less convoluted connection to their origins, evolution concepts (a lot of room for creativity there,) more abilities, more sophisticated names and like you said, just more of them. But they’re not bad as they are, one of Gamefreaks better ideas as of late.

Apparently salamence has been dreaming of flying for millions of years before this ancient salemece existed

I have tons of radiant steelix and amazing kyogre. I give them away to kids that I work with if they are into pokemon. Both of these cards get this kind of reaction from them, and yes, you’re 100% right. Very cool to see.

It’s great when legends actually have lore behind them.

yeah i will admit the gen 9 box legendaries are probably the least legendary mascots we’ve had so far. they’re nothing more than paradox forms of a common mon from the paldea region. the only thing that really makes them legendary is their stats.

That and you literally ride the box legendary around for the entire game whereas you typically aren’t introduced to legendaries in other titles until at or near the very end. I think that makes Koraidon and Miraidon just seem less “legendary” even though you can’t actually use them in battle until postgame.

Whoops, I was mixing up terms. Are there many legendaries without lore behind them?

I was referring to mainly mythicals that are just given out. Movies and anime don’t count as lore lol.

There was also no reason for Kubfu/Urshifu to be legends in SWSH. I don’t recall any story or justification for Regieleki, Regidrago and the three Galarian birds either.

While Koraidon/Miraidon lack lore, the story is pretty strong IMO.

for me, it boils down to if i can believe that there is only one of that pokemon within my experience in the game (including backstory/context if there is any). since miraidon and koraidon are paradox forms of cyclizar, there are many of each in their respective times. the issue with the galarian birds is they are regional forms of the kantonian birds which basically downgrades both trios from the legendary status. Regieleki and Regidrago however were both created by Regigigas (in the lore) so they’re still good.

My problem with this is that Radiant Pokemon are so important in so many decks that there’s no way you can make them 1 in every 2 boxes. Most decks run a Radiant mon these days (mostly Greninja). Imagine getting your hands on a Greninja that was 1 in every 2 boxes that everyone plays. And it’s not like Iono where there’s a min and a max rarity.

Okay so imagine you call them Gold Stars but make the rarity the same as Radiant. That just dilutes the legacy of Gold Stars IMO. Hard pass.

Nah dude, Gold Stars were sick to pull back then. I remember people would freak out in leagues when they would pull one and they understood how rare they were. Sure maybe they were “dirt cheap” but that’s because everything was compared to now.
