Still gives me a good laugh people act like Alt Arts and SARs/SIR are completely different cause one isnt stonk enough for them.

You think? The good ones are a few hundred raw. And maybe 60% but 10. And even then you make a couple hundred in profit. Most alts being far less in profit.

I only started opening packs once they dropped to like 2$ a pack. And when I buy them raw it’s been in the last 6-8 months so not really the peaks. I’ve made some money on them. But it’s not really worth the work unless you really like them. Which I do
But I don’t have 100, more like 4-5 of each that I like

Yeah, I agree 241 of 338 votes on Reddit is enough to concretely say without any doubt that the entire Pokémon collector base as a whole thinks alts are equivalent to golds stars.

151 is the first set since Triumphant to get a base-completion from me. I generally don’t complete the ultra rares and secret rares, but with THIS one… I might just do it. But then, I’d have less room for artist cards…

There are too many new artists for new sets. It’s exciting seeing new card reveals but I also enjoy being able to look at a card and think “ah that must be so and so Illustrator”. It’s much harder for semi-new artists to create a full/recognizable portfolio when card art keeps getting contracted out to new people.
The return of ex mechanic is uninspired. So is Ancient / Future - it looks like it’ll follow the exact same path as Rapid / Single strike - be a mechanic for a year and then just end. Yes it’s tied with the video game, but it doesn’t have the same cohesion as for example the Team Plasma BW cards which all had a beautiful blue border and matched the storyline of the BW games whereas the recent mechanics just “exist” for the sake of existing.
Radiant Pokémon are mostly ugly and they should’ve just brought back gold stars.
Again this goes back to cohesion in art style. You could remove all the text and holo and just present the art of a gold star and besides being obviously all illustrated by Fukuda, there are also stylistic choices such as leaping from the frame that make them clearly identifiable as a gold star. If you did the same with Radiants, there is nothing to tie them together.
In terms of alt arts being the new gold stars, they will never be because while they are beautiful cards, there isn’t really anything to tie them together, so the incentive to catch 'em all is smaller and prohibitively expensive (there were no gold stars over $100 when they were released).

Radiant Pokemons emulate Gold Stars:
- Basic pokemon
- Shiny type
- can’t have more than 1 in a deck
- unpopular upon release + dirt cheap
- Less than 30, easy to collect as a mini set
“alt art” is a coined term that is inconsistent but drilled into so many people’s minds currently leading to dumb statements like “SIRs aren’t alt arts”, “TG/GG aren’t alt arts” etc
