I keep trying, but every time, I just can’t get into Call of Legends. These SH cards just don’t do it for me, and seem like largely uninspired and almost cookie-cutter attempts. Also, as a set release, even a lesser appreciated one… I just don’t get much out of it. TPC didn’t intend it as a set, and they were right. (But at least it’s not Emerging Powers… Which was 2 sets later. )
NOW, there are a few cards that pop, but it’s because of the nature of the mon, and NOT the card itself. The JP release as a limited run and raffle give away, THAT adds enough provenance to make me interested.
I’d say the kyogre and groudon are top notch. Plus rayquaza too. It was cool to get shinies for kyogre and groudon though because we still have basically none besides XY and gold stars. Gold stars are super cool but admittedly a tad wonky proportionally
I regret not buying more Call of Legends when it was on shelves. Only ever opened one pack & pulled the shiny Kyogre.
As the final set that used the cosmos holofoil pattern, it’ll always get a nod of approval from me.
My unpopular opinion of the day:
The current selection of SV special illustration rares has been great. It’s given us some beautiful arts for otherwise forgettable Pokémon & the lower prices/demand has been a refreshing change of pace from the last few years.
Master set collecting kinda sucks because it forces you to get cards you don’t necessarily like to complete a set (random commons / uncommons / trainers). There’s pleasure in having a full set, but very little in owning a bulk of the individual cards.
In modern maybe, but there are many vintage sets that have really great set cohesion or create a larger picture of an area through several artworks within the set and I think are 100% worth completing a full set. Team magma v team aqua, aquapolis, skyridge and vs series come to mind as full sets worth completing.
stop guys, or you’ll end up on a list or in a ditch. they were playing the long game, 25+ years long, and you guys are putting out a dangerous narrative.
tpci created a theme song designed to brainwash generations and generations of kids to accomplish one goal for them. That its literally our destiny to do so: We “gotta catch em all. Gotta catch em all…” pokemon!
just stay safe, remember to lock your doors, and dont forget to look over your shoulders when walking down the aisles of target/walmart.
Will provide back up for this post! I never found anything special about call of legends as a set. Like you said it’s way of release for the shiny cards is really cool in Japan but it loses it for me in English as many of the shiny Pokémon just have better options in their shiny form.
Very true, i made that comment after i went to the pokeinvesting reddit and im still processing what i saw and read there. Everyone thinks there modern chase cards will be worth fortunes when the kids of now have become adults. Worst thing is when you dont echo what they say you get downvoted into oblivion. Im curious what will happen to these cards when they find out they are still worth the same or less in a few years. I believe 9/10 of these cards are bought by stonkers and not collectors creating massive artificial demand. Cards are ready to be dumped on the market when / if they panic.
Unreal man! That sub keeps popping up on my feed and I cringe when I scroll through it. Especially since you feel little to no love for the product when they talk about. It’s as they’re talking about stocks. And on top of that, like you’ve said, they think literally everything will sky rocket… Unless you have your own (web)shop and/or collect them because you actually like the cards, I don’t see the point of it.
People make the mistake of determining “low pop” based off of grading companies pop reports. Low number of graded cards could be for any number of reasons: actual low population of the card, low value of card (not worth grading), low popularity of card (no one cares to grade it), accessibility to PSA/etc in the market the card was released in, or any other of a number of possibilities.
People should use logic and research to get an idea of how low or high pop a card is. Grading companies pop reports are a valuable tool, but should not be the only tool used in a lot of cases.
