What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

  1. I think havking for Event Pokemon and items should be considered legitimate gameplay.

  2. May is the best.

  3. Sword and Shield should have never come out and Pokemon should be public domain.

  4. Generations III and IV are the best in my opinion.

  5. Don’t limit yourself to truth or ideals–use both when the situation is appropriate!

Not unpopular here, but definitely unpopular on Planet earth, opinion checks out! :upside_down_face:

…like destroying History in ACTUALITY.

1: definitely! It’s not unfair, since anyone can just buy themselves a device and hack in whatever they can imagine. As long as the mon is legitimately obtainable, with those moves and stats, I completely agree.

2: October?

3: Truth and ideals both serve a purpose, and responsible people know when each is appropriate and acceptable. But, no, you don’t own my cards, even though you might like to.

I have conflicting feelings about this. On one hand, I hate the idea of destroying a piece of history for financial gain. But on the other hand, I love the idea of allowing multiple collectors to own a piece of history. :person_shrugging:

To me it’s completely irrelevant whether a sheet stays in its original form or is cut up because I’ll never afford the sheet and I have little interest in owning the cut up pieces. However, the sheet is infinitely cooler in its complete form.

How do you feel about liquid marketplace? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Haha, good point!

I think there is a major difference between owning an NFT vs. owning an actual card that was cut from a sheet.

Pokémon Sleep is actually really cool

Golbat is an awesome, goofy design that mixes small, evil toon with Dracula elements. Both of which are amazing. At least that’s how I feel.

Why is it a piece of history as opposed to ones you get from packs?

They are mostly all stolen anyway. Keeping it as uncut is the only way any history is preserved or makes it relevant in any way.

Modern chase cards have zero upside potential and everyone who thinks so is delusional. Maybe not so much here bit this is very unpopular view

Let me explain how my brain works.

Lets start with ‘the vintage chase card’
A psa 10 base set Charizard has a pop of 460 and after 25 years is worth around 10k.

Now ‘the modern chase card’ which everyone says will be worth a fortune in the future when the kids that grew up with it have more money.

psa 10 Moonbreon in 25 years will have a lot of psa 10 copies. Lets assume for this comparison there are 30k of them and are worth around 1k right now.

There will be 65 times more Moonbreons than base charizards in psa 10 in 25 years. Lets divide the price of charizard 10k usd with 65 and you have a Moonbreon thats worth around 150usd.

Ofcourse the math is different when you choose another vintage chase card but
Am i really stupid or are the million stonkers stupid?
I think im stupid but this is just how my brain works.

Curious about the opinions of people that are way smarter than me. And people that are optimistic about modern chase cards value so i can change my unpopular view.

If you’re stupid it’s certainly not because of this. :joy:

I think the big question is which modern card is going to be the base set charizard? We already went through HR Charizard, Hidden Fates Charizard, now its not even Charizard, its Umbreon, all in 5 years. Also, who is buying these cards? Base Charizard was primarily adored by kids, and then later bought by those kids as adults. Is that process going to happen, and if so, which card(s) will stand the test of time?

I made a similar post about this sentiment wondering whats going to be high demand ‘nostalgia cards’ when the kids of the day are adults 20ish years from now getting back into the tcg. Will shinings, gold stars, crystals and 1st ed base still be the crown jewels of set collecting? Will eras like sun and moon and sword and shield end up collected but overall over shadowed by other gens of cards in terms of popularity similar to say black and white and diamond and pearl?

Im gonna try to remember to ask kids at the next collecting con I go to what’s their chase card. Will report back about what cards are going to be nostalgia pumped 20 years from now lol.

Your calculations don’t take demand into consideration, which is why you’re confused. Umbreon VMAX alt art pop report doesn’t matter as long as demand is high. The real question is whether demand will stay high and stand the test of time, as @smpratte mentioned.

If you had a base set charizard you were the coolest 6 year old in the school. Not sure if umbreon does the same this day in age. Plus most cards back then were destroyed

This is why i choose the highest demand vintage card which back in the day probably had even more demand than moonbreon has even right now.

Some modern cards do look better than vintage tho. The oldness of a card does not make it good looking there was plenty of crap back in the day too

Same at my school, but that status could be yours for $30 to comic book guy or at a 2% chance every time you opened a Base booster.

My school we didn’t care much about each other cards. It was all about learning braille at recess to find the regis

That’s true. Was much cheaper and easier to get a base set charizard in 1999 compared to an evolving skies umbreon today
