What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

Hot take, unpopular opinion, and dis all at once, sorry, I hate making enemies:
Nobody really ever admired the 5Ban full arts. They were a pallet cleanser for future, superior chase card aesthetic.

edit: “almost nobody”

I haven’t really collected modern aside from the cards I’ve needed for my Gyarados master set, but I actually kind of like the 5ban Gyarados cards :man_shrugging:

Crimson invasion 18 is nice. Hidden fates versions are nice, but the others are just OK at best. Again, 5Ban isn’t ‘Bad’, but not one was really jumping from their seats to get 'em. A pallet cleanser can be unexpectedly refreshing, but often, it’s something to just clean the slate.

in a couple of years many of the swsh alt arts will perhaps be somewhat cheap but I feel like the popular ones will at worst stagnant in price but more likely still slowly rise over time.

As someone who kept abreast of the hobby via Pokebeach for years, I have to disagree.

Some of the cards over the years that caught my eye included the Radiant Collection Full Arts, the starter EX promos with other Kanto Pokemon, the mythical promos, LEGEND cards, secret rare gold border EXes from XY, tag team alt arts and Battle Styles alts before I rejoined during Chilling Reign.

Beyond that, I simply looked forward to the drop of the whole set’s non-hit cards.

Good art will last and crappy art will not. I’m not sure why people were so into or if they were really that into 5ban and recolours.

If you want proof, look at how the tag team alt arts are holding up 4 years later compared to rainbows and full arts.

If they are cheap, it’s only because of how much has been printed as opposed to people not liking the art or it having gone out of style. I don’t even think the latter is possible because to this day the stellar Arita art from Base set holds up.

What doesn’t? All the CGI art - and even then some people still like ex cards etc.

Nostalgia is only attractive to people who grew up with the era, good art transcends eras.

Thinking a seller is selling to cater to a buyer is the most buyer take I’ve ever heard

That is how a lot of businesses tend to operate believe it or not

Isn’t that literally the definition of selling? If you’re posting something for a price that there is a near 0% chance anyone will pay, then you’re not really “selling” it in the first place.

You can’t sell without a buyer? It’s literally what selling is? What a dumb take.

dont like the price, dont buy it. seems simple enough really.

You never see a seller complaining about their items not selling for the high prices. You only see buyers complaining

Have you heard of sellers claiming “this item is no longer available” after a bad auction?

Sellers “lose cards” and then relist them when auctions dont sell high enough all the time.

If Parker is responding to the original point about complaining that sellers prices are too high, in that context he isn’t wrong. Not every seller is trying to dump their inventory.

Isnt that just part of being a seller though? Or any service for that matter, you decide on a price for that service to generate income - if its too high and youre not getting business, you lower it.

Back to ebay listings, (most) sellers dont complain because they are in control and can just lower the price if they wanted a sale

It depends. Some listings can simply be for gaining traction to your ebay store. Other listings may be “I want to sell this card for this price” which may higher than market price so theyre waiting for the card price to raise or for the card to just sell at an unusually higher price.

Obviously complaining about a sellers ‘buy it now’ being too high is dumb, just dont buy the card and get the card from a different seller. But parkers take is still dumb because most listings are infact, trying to cater to the buyer to sell their product, but not all.

Maybe for groceries, but these are collectibles. Many sellers don’t want to dump what they think are their best items, because unlike bread or milk, every card is limited. Also some sellers might do it on side and just not care.

As a buyer I never get frustrated with prices. If it’s not what I would pay I just move on.

@wooltchi the way i see it that approach falls into the “everything has a price” group. Sure its for sale, because literally anything can be bought with enough money, but if its priced more to bring traffic its only half for sale. Just my 2 cents & no hard emotions here
