I agree its best to just ignore the noise. I typically ignore the daily dumb message on eBay or ig. The tough thing with YouTube is these drama channels, where some of these comments are from, have all reached out to collaborate. It’s just more of a deep cut when people pretend to like you, but just want the clicks and clout.
@smpratte Agree with the others here, I thoroughly enjoyed the video of you bashing @koala’s posts on the latest modern release. Some people don’t know when to quit.
Edit: This is 100% sarcasm
Regarding your Youtube comments, let us not forget wise words:
I always find it kind of funny, when people who probably joined the Pokemon sphere during the peak hype and thinking they will get rich of flipping cards, shit on people like Scott who have been in the hobby for years and have more knowledge than all of them combined.
Reaction videos. They are lazy content that requires little to no skill or knowledge to churn out, and 90% of the time its a hit peice in some capacity.
There’s a reason they say not to read the comments on your own videos. The reality is that it’s exposure. For every 4 negative comments there are 100 people that just watched the video and wouldn’t have otherwise.
For example, this could be due to the video you made:
At the moment I have a guy on eBay, that messages me every 4-5 weeks about dropping the price on a PSA card I have listed. He wants me to drop the price because he has to pay fees to PSA to get it reslabbed.
First off, I think grading cards has nothing to do with collecting but all with “protecting investment” but what the fuck is this with “old” PSA slabs be less worthy than “new” PSA slabs? It’s a GEMMINT 10, price goes up by 50% in new slab?!
He doesn’t HAVE to. He wants to and thinks therefore he is entitled to discount.
Did you clearly tell him you don’t give that discount? If so I would just block him to spare you the 4 monthly message
I told him the first time that it’s not up to me to pay for reslabs, because nothing changes on it being a PSA10. But than he started blabbing about esthetics. I told him again it’s not up to me to make his collection look good. He could buy the card for the price listed.
I only replied to his first message, am ignoring the rest.
Stupid social media trends with slabs, old vs new cert numbers, full graphic slabs for your slabs, protective sleeves for your slabs as like they are an iPhone.
Here here! Using reddit stock language to talk about pokemon cards is so embarrassing. Like yeah bro im really holding the bag on my binder… man what a pathetic way to look at things. Keep up the good vids scott. Your the only guy on youtube who actually seems to be in to it for the cards and not the content. I really appreciate your slowness to making videos. Its refreshing and mature.
This is accurate. It’s easy for people to punch up, but anyone who’s at the top of their field is usually focused on their next goal instead of wasting time and energy punching back down.
I’m probably a dick, but I seek a small piece of joy knowing people like this won’t get far in life (until they fix their behavior). At the same time, they still needed to watch your video as they wanted the knowledge.
The psychology of people is wild. Bummer to see this, Amigo. I know I am reinforcing it like most here, but your insight is incredibly appreciated. I refuse to ever leave your Patreon (please don’t cancel it!)
It’s got to be even more frustrating for hobby veterans who never set out to treat the TCG as a speculative investment vehicle to get comments like this.
It’s like, “hey I’ve always just been here collecting and enjoying Pokémon for what it is, though because I’ve been doing it for so long it just happens that I’ve gained enough wisdom to make a living out of it” Which is incidentally what everyone aspires to do - make a career out of doing what they love. Then 20 years later along comes some 21-year-old Andrew Tate-watching, red Ford Fiesta ST-driving Darren with his skin fade and Nike Airmaxes (UK members will know what I’m getting on at) commenting on your videos telling you you’re an idiot because their 2 days’ browsing r/PokeInvesting and PokeStonkz discord made them 2 quid by flipping a full art Leafeon VMAX.
