Hi all,
I’m Jack from the UK, been a lurker on here for a while but finally decided to make an account.
I collect abit of everything, but currently finishing off my gym heros binder and my Rowlett collection. Also big lover of Sinnoh.
Hey @expedition ! I hadn’t seen this earlier. Always great to meet another Arita collector. I have an arita card list in the Artist Collectors Thread if you’re ever in need of finding a card. It’s complete by card, AFAIK, but not by printings, and if you happen to see any errors, of course lemme know.
When you say “Make pokemon animations” what do you mean exactly? (perhaps a PM might be a better place for this) Just curious, because I make animated card gifs in my spare time… Not sure if I’m good. lol
I’ve made some animated videos, over the course of my long time on youtube. I use adobe animate, and do frame by frame if that helps explain. It takes me absolutely forever, but its what I love to do!
Hello, my name is Dean. I am a carpenter in New York City who is an avid MTG player and collector, but have recently been fostering an interest in Pokémon cards. I was young when Pokémon TCG began, and seeing all of the old cards adjacent whilst perusing vintage MTG brings back many nostalgic memories of trading cards amongst my siblings, not knowing how to play or that they’re collectible in any way, just that they’re pretty. (: Looking forward to hanging out in the forum.
Hello everyone, I am Doug. I’m 32 and I design fonts in Berlin.
I’ve been a long time fan of the Pokémon franchise since I’ve bought and played through all the generations of main games from the Red/Blue release back in 1999 to this day. I’ve done strategic breeding/training and shiny hunting for hundred of hours in all of these games.
Regarding the TCG, I’ve bought Base Set boosters and decks back when they’ve been released but after completing the full set, I lost interest and probably never even bought a Jungle product. I ended up trading my cards against Magic The Gathering ones and dive deep into MTG with the release of Planeshift. I was strongly into Magic up til when my little brother decided to “borrow” all my Mint rarest cards to brag at school… all of them ending up bended and heavily damaged in the bottom of his backpack after he forgot about them. Still painful to recall (but I since forgave him)! After that life-changing event I decided to end up all kind of cards collecting and sold all my hundreds of MTG cards to a store.
I then enjoyed the Pokémon TCG remotely when my nephews started their own collection but that’s only back in 2016 that I bought an Expedition booster for my girlfriend, who was sad that she could not enjoy the base set back then like all of her friends. She pulled the full art Pidgeot EX and I remember my excitement and admiration when she pulled such a nice card. But it was not the right time for me to come back yet.
Flash forward to 2020 and while a pandemic hits the World, I start hearing back about Pokémon cards, crazy prices and Charizard. That’s when I started to have my interest aroused again. But I don’t like being on the hype train, especially regarding Pokémon (I started playing Pokémon Go months after the craze… but I’m still playing today) so I decided to wait for the hype to leave before buying anything and took that time to think about what I’d like to collect. Even though I’m French, I’ve been living in the UK and Germany for the past 5 years so I discarded the idea of collecting French cards. I considered going English but then I discovered the Japanese cards which felt so much straightforward on several levels and graphically more vibrant. It became a no-brainer that I should collect Japanese cards. I decided to start by buying High Class packs and bought a box of Shiny Star V. Out of this box I pulled the Marnie full art card drawn by Naoki Saito. I did not know it was the chase card from the set but I felt in love with the artwork, the design and the print of the card. That’s when I realized I’d be more interested in collecting by artists and decided to start with Naoki Saito! Oh boy, little did I knew… but I’ll develop this further on when I’ll start a thread on my collection.
Thanks for reading until here, I’m stoked to have join this community! Oh and by the way, my favorite mons are Bulbasaur and Nidoking!
Thanks @muk , actually the thread you started has had a huge influence on the way I chose to collect, from motivation to methodology so thanks again!
I’m waiting for a few orders to arrive and then I’ll hopefully start sharing the beginning of my collection.
I’m cyberurchin. I’m from Georgia. I started collecting cards and becoming obsessed with Pokemon around 1999. I fell in love with the TCG early and collected steadily until around 2005, roughly stopping around Ex Deoxys/Ex Emerald. I opened a lot of Japanese Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Gym 1 & 2 as well as all the english counterparts, although Gen 2 and the Neo sets became my favorite of all through that time. I played the Games religiously from Red/Blue, Gold/Silver to Ruby/Emerald. I took a hiatus until Fall 2019, when I decided to look for my old collection only to find out we had sold it in a garage sale years ago. I was distraught but I was determined to start my collection anew from scratch.
Since then, I have focused on collecting what I love while on a budget, learning to grade my own cards with PSA, catching up on all the sets and cards I missed, accruing knowledge, gleaning market/card info from here, knowledgeable YouTubers (because not all of them know too much about a lot of Pokemon haha), and buying and selling from my own collection. I primarily collect Japanese now and can’t keep anything sealed to save my life. I also collect Karen cards. Also my Screenname is based on my old random Xbox gamertag, no real meaning lol.
Looking forward to getting to know folks here and learning more about the hobby! Thanks.
