Hey all I’m jay or jaymanfu or pokemanfu! I have been in and out of pokemon since the very beginning of 1st ed base set. I also have played MTG, Yugioh, Star Wars and other games as well. The big one I played the most a bit more than pokemon would be DBZ. I played it a ton and even became ranked #2 in the world. I’m always down to chat about dbz pokemon or whatever and hope to add to some discussions on pokemon!

hoarding as much sealed product as possible brings me inner peace
Hello everyone! Been lurking for about a month and decided to finally go ahead and make an account. I was a huge fan of Pokemon the moment a friend at school let me play Pokemon Gold on his Gameboy when I was a kid. I collected a bunch of the cards, had Pokemon themed birthday parties, saved up to buy my own Gameboy with Gold, had a poorly done Pikachu Halloween costume one year…you get the idea. I lost a lot of interest when I got older and only followed the main series games. I know everyone has mixed feelings on how Logan Paul has affected the hobby, but I’ve been so much happier since my interest was renewed back in November. I’ve since been slowly acquiring my favorite cards and whatever else I like for my nerd shelf.
My social circle has never leaned towards the nerdy side, so I’ve rarely had the chance to talk Pokemon with people. I’m looking forward to chatting with everyone here and seeing what 2021 brings for Pokemon!

Hey everyone,
Just started getting into collecting Pokémon cards. I was 8 years old in 1999 and was all about these things when they first came out. Not sure where my little collection of base set cards ended up but I’ll keep looking for them. I didn’t have anything special anyway. Best card at the time was probably the 1st edition Machamp, but everyone had that guy. There were a couple basic 1st editions. Not sure if I had any shadowless but it’d be nice if I found it.
Anyway, I’m really focused on collecting those base set cards again and would love to add some 1st edition holos at some point. What do you guys think are the main things to keep in mind for a new collector just starting out? Anything in particular to stay away from?
Thanks!
Take your sweet time browsing e4 and Bulbapedia to really find the things you enjoy most. You’ll soon find that there are countless different avenues (WOTC, ex, modern, English, Japanese, sealed stuff etc…), so it’s best for most people to set a clear goal focus on it. Remember to stay within you financial boundries, nobody can have everything. Try to not get stressed out by all the recent noise about investing, fear of missing out and all that bad stuff.
Just enjoy collecting to the fullest, learn new stuff you’re interested in and don’t be afraid to ask e4 and soon you’ll find yourself being a successful, happy, knowledgable collector.
Welcome!

Stay away from Japanese and e series, and gold stars too
I got one Japanese Megneton in a random pack I bought. I actually do kind of like it because it’s an old Pocket Monsters card. But yeah I noticed those are definitely less valuable than English (plus I’d actually like to read what’s on the card lol). Thanks!
Hey Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well,
Just getting back in to Pokemon again after a short break, hope this fourum will be my safe haven for pokemon information that I may have missed and also get to know more pokemon fans along the way.
I am mainly focusing on Japanese sets for now, looking at some of the newer sets, shiny V seems to have my favorite cards, but if you have any other recommendations to look in to, please do let me know.
Hope you all have a great day.
Hey everyone!
Been lurking around for most of 2020 and decided to join the community back in Dec. Big Fan of Pokemon. I’ve played all of the games except for Gen 7 and my favorite set is Neo Genesis because that was the first pack my parents were able to buy me as a kid.
I spent the first half of last year just learning about the hobby; watching collector youtube videos, browsing e4 threads, Bulbapedia, FB groups and eBay listings. Jumped into collecting the 2nd half of the year and never looked back. Of course I had to start with getting my hands on a NM copy of 1st ed Lugia.
Current Goal:
- 59/60 Greninja English/JP master set completion excluding the jumbo cards. So if anyone has the XY&Z Tokyo Lottery Ash-Greninja EX please let me know
Thanks!

Hello!
My name is Stephen!
Ive been into pokemon since I was 6, I’m 32 now, Ive played all the games and have collected cards from day one, very close to getting master sets of all of them!
Some of my hopes and dreams would be to eventually open a brick and mortar store as retire by selling and collecting what I love. With that said I do have a webstore to try and get my feet wet, working at the hospital though this is the best I can do for now!
feel free to message or reply I’d love hear from new people that share the same passions as me!

Hi everyone!
I’m Patron - 27 years old from New York City.
Like many, i caught the Pokemon fever back in '99. I was only 5 at the time so I was in the bottom end of the spectrum & although I didn’t experience trading cards in school or going to Pokemon events etc., I did enjoy buying cards, the anime, the movies, the BK toys, the Pokemon CD & the excitement of finding out there were more than 151 Pokemon!
The first Pokemon game I owned was Ruby in 2003, 9 years old at the time. Loved it so much, I bought the gen 2 and gen 1 gameboy games (from the used section at Gamestop haha) and quickly caught on. My last game as a kid was Pearl in 2007, since I became “too cool” for Pokemon at 13 years of age.
Back in 2016, my cousins and I bought all the games we never played (BW, BW2, XY, ORAS) and played them simultaneously until the release of SM. WOW! This was so exciting, so nostalgic, doing it with friends and family was so much fun. (Oh how I wish we did this with Pokemon cards instead at the time.)
I began following PokeTubers in early 2019, slowly getting the urge to recollect my childhood cards plus others I never had. I educated myself with the help of these videos as well as this forum and decided to pull the trigger in September of 2019 with a card purchase of my favorite Pokemon - Gengar, 1st ed Neo Destiny too! I consider myself lucky (not as lucky as many!) for having the entry point I did - I was able to pick up many fun and nostalgic cards before prices got a bit out of reach for me. I focused on 1st ed holo & with the help of excel I enjoyed tracking my progress. Here I am today, decided to stop being a lurker and register myself on this amazing and insightful forum.
Love Pokemon, Love Finance, Love Business - and this hobby can be the perfect combination of all three.
Thats my story! Look forward to meeting many of you.
Cheers,
Patron
Hey guys!
I’m Wo1v3r, 28 from Israel, somewhere in the middle of the desert A Software Engineer and a parent to a dog (Doobie [bear in Hebrew]) and a cat (Bunny)
Grew up on Pokemon as a kid, played the games (mostly Silver) and the card game up until middle school, most of my cards and games from back then were thrown by my mom OBVIOUSLY. When the SWSH era started with the switch games I got back heavily into collecting & playing the games, kind of missed out on the opportunity with some old sets before the pandemic as I focused on modern sets that I can buy at LGS but MEH.
Since the pandemic started I amped it up and focused on cards that I think have a nice story behind them or commemorative ones (e,g Kanazawa) and older cards of Pokemon that I loved as a child
Collecting outside of the US has its’ own challenges, sometimes there are products that are much easier to get here (e,g. Hidden fates and Shining Fates) but purchasing singles and grading is a huge hassle.
I try as much as possible to ignore the “investing” niche that sprouted around the cards as I just can’t keep sealed items and focus on grading etc as much as poketubers urge everyone to haha. Glad I found this forum to see more like-minded people that focus on the cards themselves instead of the st0nk.
My next goals are to start slabbing some of my cards mostly for keeping their condition, be on the lookout for old cards of favorite Pokemon in my reach & fill up more modern binders, managed to complete Evolutions before it skyrocketed so I’m very happy about that.
So that’s about it, Hope 2021 will be covid-less and TBH more excited about Pokemon SNAP and a future game (?) and preparing for disappointment regarding 25th-anniversary cards haha.
Hello,
I am Niece live in Maine and have been involved with Pokemon since 2000, though have been on a little bit of a hiatus…Ok a long one. I stopped when Skyridge cam out!
My son started playing and collected sets. He actually learned to read playing Pokemon . I collected Charizards and Japanese promos. When my son moved on to YuGi Oh we took a break. In 2018 during some life rearrangement ( new house for me, marriage for my son) the old cards came out. Wow! What fun it was! Just as good as opening a new booster box! Took a little while but the pull was too strong and now I am back all in, trying to catch up on everything I missed! Looking forward to a new Pokemon adventure!

Hi there!
Kelsey here. UK-based and (with the exception of my childhood collection) I’ve been collecting as a hobby since 2015. I built up a nice collection of near-complete Japanese 1st edition sets and decided to take a break in 2017.
Came back to the hobby in 2019 and turned my attention to first edition WOTC sets and am now well on my way to completing the base, jungle, fossil, rocket and gym heroes sets.
I’m relieved to have started collecting before the recent price jump and have recently focused on grading what I have (though the wait time is soul-destroying).
Long-time lurker but looking forward to joining discussions and learning more!
