Video: The History of Pokemon TCG Power Creep

I’m not super knowledgeable on all the decks and metagames over the years, but I do love Pokemon and the TCG, and I’ve always been curious about how and when the cards got so big, especially recently. And since I haven’t seen any videos going very in-depth on the topic, I tried making my own! I thought some people here would maybe be interested.

@smpratte Yeah I’ve known about those for a while, and he gives a good general overview of what power creep is and what cards held the records. But it glosses over a ton of the game’s history and doesn’t really explain the significance or context of the cards or how balanced they were compared to the rest of the format, etc. Considering how many views those vids got, I’m shocked no one else has attempted to dive deeper! (Not that I know of, at least)

There’s been a couple, here’s one for example from a current content creator for the TCG.

That being said, I don’t know why there can’t be more and enjoyed watching your video  You had good editing and a nice relaxing voice to keep me invested. I hope you continue producing these kinds of videos, I feel like they’re lacking in the community.

@rambo Oh wow, for some reason I didn’t find any other videos when I looked. That one gives a more in-depth analysis of the top cards and decks over the years and explains the mechanics involved, which I didn’t want to get into. I tried making an easy-to-follow story of the game’s history while still showing off the different card types and stuff. I agree that more scripted/edited content like that is lacking, so I’m gonna try to make some. Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate it!

This may not be exactly what you’re looking for but it’s going to be as in-depth as you can get. It’s a series made by PTCGRadio where he makes videos about each set and what they did for the TCG in terms of gameplay and what the popular decks were. I believe he is currently in the HeartGold/SoulSilver era and they release new episodes of this series once a week. It’ll take a while to get to modern but if you wanted the entire history I would definitely recommend it.
