Vending with only "theme related" items, Will this work?

Here is the issue/question.
I will be vending next weekend on a Dutch fair and they asked people to decorate their stands according to the theme “garden”.

Because I’m always willing to make it a little more special I decided to dedicate 2 of my displays to the “garden” theme.
Not sure how this is going to work out, but the preparation I’m doing right now is giving me so much fun I wanted to share it.
Please don’t spread/share this picture untill the fair is over (so after 14 jan 24)

For me “garden” says : Grass Pokemon, Green items, Plants.
I do have 3 displays and I hope there is a space for a stand behind us.

for the Stand (shelves) I have several sealed boxes and tins with Grass Pokemon on them. Like a Leafeon tin, Grookey box, Arceus chest. All green/grass.

1 display will only have PSA slabs with Grass Pokemon en a few raw grass Pokemon.
The other display will have a kind of Grass/Green items of which I will post the picture.
I do have a 3rd display and some space on the table I will put all kind of boosters/things on because I don’t dare to go fully “garden”.

Now I like to find out:

  1. Do you like this display if you went to a fair/show and what do you like?
  2. I’m planning to vend on a few Collect A cons in the USA, could this work if I’m bringing items for 1 case dedicated to a color/theme? I only have 2 cases on those shows.

p.s. the Skyridge box is empty.

AFter being at several shows, I can say 95% of the seller only have modern (2020-2023) items/cards. A few to have some older cards. But as fas as I know I have a nice mix of vintage and a bit modern.

This sounds like so much fun! I love garden themes. I would definitely check out your table if I was attending the event. My office is in the sunroom which has lots of houseplants and my growing collection of grass-type sitting cuties are spread around the plants. Have fun and all the best - let us know how it goes  :shamrock:

  1. Not a huge fan of this display because its a bit jumbled for me. If its a cardshow then im looking to clearly find the items im looking for so having figurines and other merch, mixed with cards, mixed with everything at different angles, makes it seem a bit less suitable for a card show. Then again, its nicer to look at than many of the normal displays at cardshows.

If its a craft or sellers faire then it looks nice and would present well for marketing. If the theme is garden then maybe a craft store visit for a length of fake leafy vine circling around the display (outside, not inside) to really sell the point of plant themed.

  1. Color theme is cool and would make it a recognizable display if I saw something I wanted, so i could easily find you again later in the show when im looking to purchase.

Overall, its fun but I would worry as a seller if that was limiting potential sales. If its jumbled will people be able to clearly see what they are looking for or will they miss it costing a potential sale. If you choose a theme what if someone is looking for things aside from that theme. Im pretty sure vendors always have these dilemmas and just have to trust their gut and leave it to luck for connecting the right way with the show.

You may want to incorporate small display stands for some of the smaller collectibles. It will help to keep the box organized and cute. You could also buy some fake greenery to put along the display to aide in your theme.

Great job! I think it will go over well.

It’s a Pokemon fair. So not only cards but a whole convention center only with Pokemon. Compare it with Cardparty perhaps.

I do have a cards only display next to it. However it will be only grass pokemon.
And I know I limit my sales but to be honest, you can take for example take all Umbreon cards you have to a show and sell only that single Zapdos.
It’s the right person coming to you looking for exactly what you have to offer.

I do have fake leaves/vine. I will post the pictures next week when it’s set up.
Can’t translate what my idea is how I’m going to use them.
I tried a few fairs now with those displays mainly filled with (graded) cards and I didn’t enjoy it.

While this first display might look a little messy (on purpose) this is about how the other one will look.
BTW I really don’t want to sell the Treecko, but for display it’s an eyecatcher.

I really like the themed display, especially because you’ll have other items for sale in a more “organized” manner too. I think it’s a great way to get people over to your table! I would definitely stop by.

Having some fire/red themed for a collect-a-con would probably get all the charizard fans to your area

I make those picture so I can build up very quickly at a show.
Normally I do bring not that many merchandise, but I decided I want to take that direction for a few times. Just to see what will sell.

I also don’t have any books on the table. I bring books for of singles/raw but nobody will touch the books, they can aks for a certain card. I will dig it up.
I know a weird way of selling, but it gives me security none of my items get stolen.

I honestly think Charizard fans are taken care of by many sellers already.
I did a Zard theme display recently (at my former brick and mortar I help out the new owner with offering some older stuff)
But those displays are way bigger and secure.
Also I cannot travel around the world carrying to many pokemon boxes. Going through customs would be a hell believe me.

Do you have any sitting cuties you can throw in?

I think a sparse spread is better than the scattered style.
Perhaps adding a grassy colored backdrop to sit the items on? Fake grass would be the best imo  but things would have to be spread out more

I went through the storage again, but I don’t have fake grass anymore.
Sitting cuties are way to expensive to import, I might try to pick up a few when I’m at a collect a con. (pokemoncenter doesn’t ship to Europe mainland)

Arranged the case to make it look a little less messy.
It will always look messy because of the dimension of the different items.

I do have to pick up a box with small tomy filgures from the storage to see if any grass pokemon are in there to add.

I really like your above second setup more than the first. I think the items just kept straight rather than at an angle seem more easy and pleasing to browse through in my personal opinion. I also think your vision for garden does come through with all of the grass Pokemon and green merchandise. If I was to browse at your booth I would not second guess the theme atleast.

Success and have fun at the event.

Cheers!

Congrats on sales, the display looks great! That thin display is really neat.
