Valuing Signed PSA Cases

I am looking at attending the Dallas Regional Championship and having MF sign some Gold Stars. I am a massive fan of the Gold Stars and currently my only signed MF card is a Regice from world’s 2006. I was wondering what the value of a signed Charizard and Rayquaza would be if their cases were signed (PSA 9). I am also trying to decide which Gold Stars I should have him sign. Any thoughts of which ones? Currently thinking about Rayquaza (my personal fav) and the other two Regis to have a complete set.

It’s hard to say. Signed cases are few and far between to really put a price to especially for Fukuda’s signature. Only recent sale of a signed case was of Kouki Saitou. It did really well but I still think a signature on the card would have fetched higher since that’s more desirable. Honestly I would advise against signed cases because the sharpie is not protected from being chipped or rubbed off on the plastic.

As far as what to get signed, get your favorites signed. Who knows if Fukuda will ever do this again. Enjoy the experience and make the memories great.

Signing the case is fine. Shouldn’t hurt the value at all. After all, it’s very simple removing the sharpie ink from a case. It’s even easy removing the sharpie ink from a card…no matter how long ago it was signed.
Short term it should even help the value:)

If the card is right - or the reasons - then I’m all for having the case signed. I’ve got two of my cases signed so far with a similar intention for Fukuda and more in the future. Provided I can see some provenance as reassurance then I personally wouldn’t treat a signed case all that dis-similarly to a signed card. I think there’s even a chance they might be able to be authenticated by BGS but could be wrong too.

@garyis2000, can I ask how you might remove ink from a case? Would it be as simple as baby wipes or some kind of nailpolish remover or alcohol solution?

Personally, I really like the Legend Maker gold stars so having a full signed set is appealing. As others have said, you should get cards/cases signed that you personally enjoy. If your goal is to make money I don’t see how you could go wrong with any gold star.

@shininggrey,
I’ve used rubbing alcohol or pure eucalyptus oil. Then a q-tip to apply.

You can test it on a different case first to get the hang of it.

From what I have gathered, anything alcohol based will remove sharpie. I used rubbing alcohol with a q-tip to remove some kids initials off of a bunch of cards before. My guess is the higher alcohol content the better, but then it also is more volatile.

@garyis2000, @mikejofthecoast, Thanks guys, thats a huge help! I’ll head into town today and see if I can find something that will do the trick, appreciate the help!
