Unprecedented Mail Delays - Be Patient

I ordered a reasonable expensive card on October 1st. Estimated delivery was 2 weeks. It arrived this morning. The seller was very professional and provided proof that it had been sent so I called the postal service and they said they had no idea where it was and couldn’t give a delivery time but they would be able to update me on December 22nd (this was about a week ago). Then, out of the blue it turned up like nothing had happened. The seller was great and very professional and got the feedback they deserved for that. But the post service everywhere is just a mess right now. Estimated delivery times mean nothing and buyers need to be aware that sellers often have no control over it. Ebay gives you 30 days so I would personally wait as long as possible before opening a claim because you might be surprised. Its not fair to damage a sellers reputation over a mistake by the postal service.

Oh Yea I am experiencing the same, a buyer opened a case less than 5 hours as being ā€œlateā€. I messaged them and explained the situation, the next day they closed the case as it arrived >.< the impatience is unreal! I am expecting more cases to be opened as we get closer to Christmas, I have been getting several messages asking for updates.
I have edited my ebay page profile with a little message about postal delays XD So as soon as you click on my page it is there.

ā€œWelcome to my Ebay page! Please be aware there are possible postal delays due to Christmas and the current Global situation. I would appreciate your patience as delivery times are out of my hands. Thank you very much!ā€

Ebays estimate delivery are what buyers are going by, I have been quoted the estimated delivery several times

Have had multiple eBay cases opened against me the last few days. ā€œI see the item is in transit but it’s been longer than expected so refund meā€ - the impatient mentality these buyers share. Hopefully, eBay does not penalize sellers during this time. I did notice eBay placed a note in the shipping details section regarding these unprecedented delays. It’s funny, I am waiting for multiple packages, some of fairly high value and am waiting patiently. Gotta love eBay

@cardstockpile, is your ebay the same as your name?

eBay forced me to refund one today. Package is still in transit… Seems like the only option is to try to intercept. From what I’ve been reading eBay is not refunding sellers if the item arrives after the INR was closed in the buyers favor. Has anyone here tried?

Am also having many of my packages delayed. Worst one is 11 days since it departed my local USPS facility and the tracking has not updated since. Most of my buyers are actually being very patient which I am thankful for. One thing I noticed was that about two or three weeks ago ebay had a note next to all my listings advertising ā€œfree 4 day shippingā€ even though I have a three day handling time in all my listings (maybe it only included the time it took after usps received the package, idk). I checked again just now and that note is gone which I am happy about. I typically ship every day as long as I sold something, but I don’t want ebay to give my buyers an unrealistic timeline for shipments that I never agreed to.

Non of my cards are coming in on time. Tracking is all over the place
Can I chalk it up to Christmas craziness?

If I bought 30 cards all separate orders, different sellers, most are going to be delayed and certainly at least 1 or 2 are going to get lost or mishandled right? Statistically speaking…?

Should I expect problems with buying this time of year? Do you have confidence buying on eBay? I’m feeling unassured

@chewy, stuff is delayed rn. Be patient

Ok yeah just making sure

I had this problem last holiday season with eBay advertising ā€œarrives before Christmasā€ on my listings all the way up to the 21st, even on listings with 2 day handling time. It seems they should at least consult the seller before advertising unrealistic promises to shoppers that the sellers are ultimately responsible for fulfilling.

To follow up on this one of the impatient buyers left me bad feedback and escalated their case to eBay customer support. eBay put the case on hold until 12/22. I am assuming ebay is aware of the delays and is extending this courtesy to sellers in the interim. Does not help when people leave bad feedback though. Any thoughts on this?

@cardstockpile, I PM’d you (don’t worry it’s good stuff :blush: )

And I’d say ebay might help you about buyers leaving bad feedback just because of shipping which is out of your control. Unless you shipped something without tracking. Anyone who does PWE might be screwed by those kind of buyers.

Gotta love buyers who open an item not received case 4 business days after the item was shipped! On untracked mail, there’s no real option except to immediately refund. Because if you don’t upload a tracking number on an INR case, eBay will auto-escalate the case after a few days and you’ll be debited AND get a defect on your account. Just a PSA/venting post.

Which just sucks. I can see why people have been saying they stopped with the small items, because they don’t want to deal with it. I’ve sold more PWE items the last few weeks than I have in the last few months and have been very lucky no one has reached out with a INR. I expect it to happen though.

Mail this time of year is just incredibly inconsistent so if you’re a buyer, definitely try and be patient. There’s honestly no sense of it at all, I’ve had packages from the same province (Canada) or city arrive weeks apart even though they were sent at the same time. Just be patient, as long as you did your due diligence before (i.e. G/S, good feedback seller) then you’ll have recourse if it indeed never shows up. Reach out to your seller if you’re worried and communicate with them what’s happening.

Sellers, if you’re not pressed to sell anything, just put your ebay store on vacation until the new year. I’ve done it myself as I really don’t need to stress right now dealing with slow delivered mail. Always aim for prevention of problems if you can before the problem emerges itself. Cheers all.

For every seller in here who is dealing with unreasonable, impatient buyers:

Post their eBay usernames in here so we can all block them. The buyers who are unreasonable this time of year will also be unreasonable in March, July or any other month.

My only worry with doing with this is that the buyer is going to see it and then leave me a negative lol. Enough people view this site that’s there’s a non-zero chance of this happening

Yep just did this myself to kick in on the 17th through to the 4th of 2021. Just received an email about increased delays through Canada Post as well as having seen the notices on USPS and in this thread. Not worth the hassle of impatient buyers.
