Unprecedented Mail Delays - Be Patient

LMAO was wondering if you were personally walking my my ebay purchase to my doorstep at the slowest pace possible.

100% The estimated deliveries are insane. I live near a postal hub, ship same day, next day at the latest; couldn’t be anymore optimal, and they barely arrive on time. Ebay is trying to be like amazon, minus the drop ship aspect, which is how amazon can maintain their s tier delivery times.

Ugh, this thread is not news to me. I have a guitar coming in from Tennessee, I don’t expect to have it in my hands in 2020.

The Ebay system can be bad the other way aswell.

My friend had an unfortunate episode with an expensive card a few months back, PSA card arrived with a cracked case. It was shipped with the shittiest banana boat option available in a PWE with one layer of bubblewrap. The card arrived over a month after the Ebay-guarantee expired, the seller ghosted, a Paypal case had to be made, and offcourse the fucking idiot was panicking because he had underdeclared the card without even asking (you wouldn’t believe me if I told you who it actually was). Once Paypal had his balls in vice, ghosting was no longer an option, so it worked out in the end, but far from ideal, having to rely on Paypal to clean up his and Ebays mess.

Can vouch, had a 2 day Priority package mailed to me 11/27 and it just arrived today. One hour time zone difference, 9 business days. eBay needs to change something. I can’t imagine coast to coast or international.

You bet. I’m so used to waiting, I don’t even feel it until it’s more than 3 weeks past latest expected delivery date. And that’s when things are normal.

Yeah, I really wish people would be patient. I had a “item not received” claim opened against me and buyer wanted the item only 3 days after eBay’s estimated delivery date. For some reason the eBay estimated delivery time was automatically around 2 weeks and the package sit in Finland for almost that 2 weeks before moving forward.

I had tracking but eBay still refunded the buyer even though the tracking showed the package had left Finland just 2 days before the last estimated delivery day. eBay will refund the buyer when certain amount of days pass even if you have tracking and even if the buyer requests the item and not refund. If buyer doesn’t close the case themselves eBay will force a refund.

In my case, the card arrived to the US literally on the same day when eBay forced a refund. It’s insanity. So please guys be patient as buyers and do not open cases against sellers before messaging them first, for all fairness.

Put me down as another ‘had to refund impatient buyer; item showed up two days later’. For international shipping I’m only GSP now. It’s just not worth the headache.

Huh, in Norway everything I order from Ebay has 2months estimated delivery, so it suck the other way if the buyer does not send since I can’t claim before its gone so long

Yes it seems USPS is delayed as well. Many retailers went over their quota for allotment of shipments from the shipping companies.

This doesn’t explain Japan’s mailing system, I still have outstanding pikachus from when Corona started. It’s been almost a year. Did Japan ever open up their shipping, aside from using private shipping companies? I’ve lost my patience for these Pikachus and Ebay will not reimburse because it’s been so long. Terrible.

If an order from feb still didn´t show up it´s most likely lost. I receive letters/packages via the regular japan post as normal since august, but I´m also located in Germany. That being said, it still takes 3-4 weeks usually, it was 2 weeks max only last year.

eBay’s “estimated delivery time system” has been the worst feature they’ve ever added from this seller’s perspective in the last ten years.

Thanks for the response and noting Japan post is running. I have waited since mid April 2020 for my order but I don’t expect to receive it. Ebay has not been helpful as a buyer in this situation.

Question for you all, since I’ve run into this too. I sent out a bunch of packages on Monday 11/30. I stood in line at the post office and got a receipt from the initial scans (I always do this). I had a buyer open an INR claim literally on the first possible day and without messaging me first. Tracking shows no advancement since 11/30 on any of the packages I sent that day. I called USPS last night and sat on hold for an hour and a half to get a person who told me to talk to the people at my local post office (would I like to take a survey about my call? LOL).

Today I asked at the post office and they said the local distribution center is backed up and it could be 1-2 weeks for things to move. My question is if the buyer escalates to eBay, which they can do soon, I’m going to have to refund them even though they’re going to get the card too, right? Would calling eBay be any help here? What do you all do?

Incidentally, I have stuff I shipped 12/1-12/2 that has already been delivered. Very frustrating.

i’ve had pretty reasonable buyers this month, but my shipments are getting delayed like crazy. i’ve already had 5 packages go mia for 1-2 weeks and then just pop up later like nothing happened.

The system itself is pretty good, what’s bad about it is how “precise” the window is supposed to be. As a customer, you wanna know when it is going to arrive, i dont need to know if it is going to arrive on Monday, at 2 45am. I wanna know if its going to take 2 days or 3 weeks, thats it.

Did you ever get reimbursed by eBay or are you out both the item and the money?

I can accept mail delays, but my last 3 packages have either disappeared or were delivered to the wrong address. One of them was a 5.7k package from PWCC. It’s pretty messed up right now.

But the system isn’t good at all. The estimated delivery quote has nothing to do with shipping. In general, the idea is that if you, for example, use 1st class parcel mail it should take the rough amount of time USPS quotes it taking under ordinary circumstances. This is common knowledge, or at least should be by any adult purchasing things from other people via mail. It isn’t the same as a corporation selling things to you from their website. This is another individual (in 99% of ebay), sending something via the mail to you. The time frame is useless. They will tell you what mail service they are using on the listing. And even then, just expect it to be about a week. Sooner? Great. Later? Fine and ordinary. The point is, you never know it is going to take 3 weeks or 2 days. Ebay’s whole thing is useless and only serves to make the selling experience harder–they are just becoming more and more corporate and follow customer obsequiousness protocol that is more the norm ever day that passes in our increasingly corporate world these days. It has no other purpose.

And also, people on E4 aren’t the problem. I have my doubts as whether a single person on here would be the kind to do this. Generally the kind of people that join this forum aren’t the kind that are unreasonable about receiving online orders. I mean, most people here sell on ebay anyway, they know what it is like.

Something was wrong with the package and USPS is sending it back to me for “invalid address”. Which is weird because the buyer’s address was definitely correct. But there were some weird things on the tracking even before leaving Finland which I contacted the customer service about but they said to me that everything is fine. And now it’s being sent back to me so I would have needed to refund anyways and there was indeed something wrong! This whole case has been crazy. Now it will probably take months before I get it back to me. I’ve never been in a mess like this.
