Unique "Ripped Wing" Base Set Charizard Error

I was referring to “faded” or “ghost” stamps not thick/thin which is a clear repeated variation.

I did not know of OP’s other accounts. That’s a fair point. They all have the same avatar it’s hard to keep track.

Yeah they literally liked your post within seconds. Its a clear pump attempt, something that didn’t exist in the pure 2008 era.

This card is nothing special. I saw Euron Greyjoy shoot through the wing myself.

My friend, you’re not catching the clues. I saw this from page one. It’s a feeble attempt to hype a garbage anamoly.

@smpratte, I’m not sure what you mean by a pump attempt. ProfessorOakCali is not me, I don’t know how you would check that, maybe by looking at his post history, account creation, location or something idk… I originally made this post because I wanted to display this unique misprint that I personally thought was very cool, but I guess this was the wrong place to do that. I guess I was expecting that some people may appreciate the card for its uniqueness and not its value as I do. In my post I had never mentioned the market or what this card may be worth, all I did was try to give a descriptive summary of the misprint. Maybe people here may not appeal to my manner or speech and may be expecting an easier read, although this is just how I express myself. I guess back in 2008 people had more of a core appreciation for the collecting aspect of the hobby, whereas now people have a greater appreciation for the market, yet this is only my conclusion from my brief time here as almost everyone is bringing up the market or the value of the card. Also, I really don’t want people to confuse ProfessorOakCali for me as they are new here as well, and I don’t want people to ruin their experience here by responding to them with the negativity I received here. I’m sorry if I appear to posses a defensive nature regarding the subject, but I believe my tone to be incited by all of accusations of the card being fake. I don’t want to cause further confrontation regarding the card so I think it may be best that I just keep it to myself.

I don’t recall anybody saying the card is fake. It’s just damaged which many people before you have tried to pass off as important. This site is loaded with experts who can’t be fooled. It’ll always end badly like this. Best these type hype ads stick to reddit or whatever.

Most popular errors are popular because there’s definitive and distinctive added (or removed) attribute to the card. In this case I have a hard time discerning whether it’s error or just damage, and that’s when it doesn’t do it for me. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t appreciate it, but don’t expect others to see it the way you do. Enjoy it

@jkanly, this may the be the last time I discuss this issue, but I had just watched this really informative video that PkmnFlyingMaster recently released where he discussed how this type of misprint may occur. It is a good watch for anyone in the hobby whether they enjoy my card or not.

Just saying that this whole post reads like a grimy sales pitch which is why you received all these negative responses

Maybe you are genuinely happy that you have this card because you’re a collector and you like the uniqueness, but to many of us, this reads as if you’re just trying to oversell the hell out of a damaged card lol

@madden12ut Reminds me of that Blastoise with MTG back story.

I pulled a fantastically damaged, I mean errored, Charizard from a shadowless blister pack last November. Of all the cards it could be it was the iconic shadowless charizard with an amazing 1/1 error just above his body. You can see that the paint is completely missing giving the card a beautiful shine when the light hits it just right. Oh, what a site to behold! Even more iconic then its younger step brother the unlimited charizard version. Only one card is more iconic…can you believe my luck. This unique and outstanding card was sent to Ludkins and was graded a 9 (still waiting on it to return)…with the printing defect it should be worth 3x the regular rate of a 9… :open_mouth: In all seriousness, I was quite bummed with the defect. But, factory defects on WOTC era cards are not all that rare.

Maybe a little relevant but heres a foil shift card, but reading the thread cards should be printed on top of the foil? Appears the opposite here.

You can quite clearly see the shift in the “R”

@cosrob, I think most-all of the Here Comes Team Rocket Holo’s have that issue.

In the video I shared, I explain how this happens. The opaque white layer that determines what parts of the card are holo/nonholo is shifted relative to the colour layers

I actually pulled and named the “Cigar Hitmonlee” myself. Turns out the cigar wrapper wasN’t a cigar wrapper at all. It was a piece of the end of the foil roll lol. Sorry I misled people for a decade:(

Sorry to continue to mislead people :joy:

Lol…you can actually look up the name on that and find the company that produces the foil rolls.

Interesting video. Never knew if you take away the opaque layer it turns into a legendary collection version on roids.

At the end of the rip it seems to have like extra skin of the wing folded over attached to the holo error (looks darker blue). As if they printed it to actually look like someone ripped it and folded it back. A true ripped wing charizard lol very neat card.

Damn; joining E4 last year was one of the best decisions ever. You lot are smart af. Always learning.
