Whats the history of this card? First time I´m seeing it :upside_down_face:

It’s over. I can never catch them all. English Jasmine’s raichu felt like the top of the mountain and was bad enough. This is out of the realm of feasible

It’s rare but It isn’t the only one mate - Wotc loved making multiples of this stuff.

At some point I’m sure the opportunity will arise - and usually they go for cheaper than expected as only a handful of people are prepared to pay.

I think last time they sold they were $10k or something (?), maybe someone can correct me.

Expensive but not unobtanium.

In this market its gonna be difficult. A pre release raichu sold in 2018 for around 20k according to pokebeach (https://www.pokebeach.com/2023/11/legendary-prerelease-raichu-certified-and-graded-for-first-time), so theres no telling what the market will do now. I have faith @Kijamon will obtain one eventually though.

I actually didn’t. My way of dodging the issue was psa hadn’t recognised them and I wasn’t happy unless multiple grading companies did.

Now they do I would expect any of them to sell for a lot more. But @charizardesespana is right too that there’s not that many raichu collectors out there, it’s the collectors of these cards as a rarity that’ll end up buying it.

Remember when we didn’t know about trophy cards so this was the card.

Pretty sure when they first appeared they were 10k or something - but maybe I’m wrong.

20k is a lot but if it’s your ultimate grail then there are worse things to spend money on I guess (like a new car).

My main point is, I won’t be surprised if more of these appear out of the cracks in time.

I can’t imagine wotc were like - “nope, only 4 guys”.

Wasn’t their style!

And what we have learned is that those who get their hands on these from wotc sources usually trickle them out on purpose to give more a feeling of scarcity…

I am no Prerelease Raichu expert, but my understanding from following the card throughout the years is that the provenance is the most important thing. I can’t speak definitively, but the impression I have been given throughout the years is that there are multiple ways of “producing” a Prerelease Raichu, only one of which is the mythical method of accidentally printing a Prerelease stamp onto the requisite Base Set sheet.

Authenticating and grading this card without publicizing the provenance is CGC-level and is not what I have come to expect from PSA. Combine that with the Facebook statement which said that someone “leaned on their network” to get the card graded, it certainly appears as if something questionable has gone on in order to get this card authenticated.

I’ll reserve judgement until more information comes out soon™, but as of now I am skeptical. I also question whether this signals a shift in PSA’s definition of what “authentic” is, in which case they may be opening a bigger can of worms than they bargained for. Or they’re just doing this for clout and like CGC will ignore the inconvenient cards which should be authenticated under their demonstrated definitions of authenticity.

I don’t know what Rusty paid, I was just aware they originally went for much less than that.

According to chat gpt, one sold for $10k and another sold for $30k - whether that is accurate or not, I can’t say.

According to CGC there were at least 11 copies, but whether they all exist or not is up to speculation.

It appears PSA has recently widened their allowances for determining authenticity. I heard that they are also authenticating more niche cards like FPOs.

I am not nearly knowledgeable enough on this topic to speak to the origins of the Prerelease Raichu, but CGC’s article was written a year before the prototype debacle. To say they used “every resource at its disposal…” holds even less water knowing their authentication practices (or lack thereof) of niche and provenance-leaning cards.

Would be curious to see the authentication process of PSA for this card and see how closely aligned both grading companies are.

do you have an example of them grading an FPO recently? :eyes:

I haven’t seen one yet, but I just checked their submission page, and it looks like they’re all available for grading:
