I believe your pull rate numbers are incorrect. Crystals were typically 2 per box for Skyridge (not including reverse holos). This means each Crystal appears once every 3 boxes, on average. So, for instance, a Mudkip gold star is twice as difficult to pull as a Skyridge crystal Charizard.
that countdown calendar glaceon was a pain in the ass to locate, especially being in australia.
i managed to get one in the end from canada, but it was the bane of my existence for a while there
I don’t have any reasons other than A) they’ve been a pain in the ass to locate in mint condition and B) I adore the arts but – the 2013 Sylveon Collection Box Promo Cards for the B&W era (BW87 - BW94)
Right before Covid this set was selling for about $20 in NM/LP condition. That’s about $2 per card, seemed like a bargain. During the hype peak, they were well over $100 for the set. They seem to be at an appropriate price now. There were tons of these boxes made and a lot of people had the set that didn’t collect Eeveelutions.
ty for bringing me back down to earth. these cards seem to have low pop on PSA but I always appreciate the free education. I guess I just assumed they were from a throwaway promo product during an unremarkable year for the TCG nearly a decade ago.
my eevee-colored glasses are usually on pretty tight though
edit: I also find the artist part of the card interesting since I’m not used to seeing “team” as opposed to a sole illustrator. any more info on that?
A lot of ex series regular holos seems undervalued to me. Many cards with an art quality similar to Skyridge with sub-100 total pops selling for under $100 for PSA 9 and under $500 for PSA 10 seems almost criminal.
With how much organic collectibility ex and gold star cards have, I’m surprised that demand hasn’t trickled down to the regular holos.
Agreed, a lot of the playmats are also just works of art. Honestly not sure why these aren’t as “collectible” either. I have some that I like from the Final Fantasy TCG and the artwork is amazing. I don’t think it is about undervalued, but underappreciated.
Regular holos have increased quite a bit over the past couple years, in fairness. I started collecting the PSA 10 holos in late 2020 IIRC, and they were between one third and one half the price they are currently. I’m not sure that they’re currently undervalued. I actually think some of them are pretty overvalued right now. I’ve seen PSA 10 EX Dragon Salamence holo sell for nearly the same amount as PSA 10 EX Dragon Rayquaza ex, for instance, which feels pretty crazy to me.
The holos from the first three sets are amazing cards, though. No question about that. The significantly lower holo pull rates in RS/SS/DR coupled with the amazing art + their being first appearances makes them extremely appealing cards to me. Even if they’re not undervalued, they are absolutely underappreciated.
Such great playground memories of that card! Left us all thinking it was some kind of rare error because of the card number. Back in the day when every single aspect of the cards mattered - the number, the illustrator, the HP, the rarity symbol, the bottom text etc.
I think theres a lot of gen 1 and gen 2 tcg adjacent items that are undervalued
-pokemon centric issues of becketts, scyre(sp?), things of this nature
-nintendo powers with promotional pokemon cards still with them
-pop series in general feels underpriced raw
-eon tickets
Nintendo powers have been rising a bit recently, but still agree and think they are undervalued. Especially the Venusaur black star promo. I don’t do grading but there is not a PSA 10 in existence as far as I’m aware, and still copies around with the envelope still sealed inside for fair prices. For people who do grade (especially to sell) they seem quite good value.
Definitely the jungle no symbol error cards. You can still get near mint copies of every card for very cheap! High grades cost a lot, but if you want to complete the set it’s not gonna be a big buy typically. I think it is very undervalued, especially as an early vintage card set!
