That is exactly what I was thinking. I was trying to get the Gretzky card in the back to be centered and not tiled, but since I am not great at web design it it won’t change. I went ahead and removed it from the background. I was thinking just a colored boader would be good.
And FrostFluxy, I am trying to figure out how to alter the front page for iphones. Does it not show up on your computer as well or just the iphone? My iphone was doing the same thing but my computer shows the links at the top.
For a start, the website looks good.
You need to do a lot of work on the design, though.
I would also recommend another webhoster. What I strongly dislike is the bar on the buttom right. It doesn’t look professional. Use xtCommerce for your shop, that’s the best software you can get. You need some time to get into it and learn how to work with it but once you learned that, it’s by far the best and many, many, many big online shops use it. It’s free, too, so give it a try. You do have an FTP server, right?
Yes I do have a FTP server, I have no idea how to do anything on it. And which bar on the bottom right are you referring to?
And it is difficult to get a high quality scan of those cards that close. I thought of doing something like clive’s banner from his pokeblokey ebay site with a lot of the high end cards. I figured since I named the site “trophycasecards” that I would put the pikas with the trophies.
Also, the host I am using is not bad, it is mostly my lack of knowledge on how to utilize what is offered. I already had to pay for this host so I am not considering starting over.
But I appreciate the feedback, it really helps me look at perspectives I would not have on my own.
Ah yes that little guy! I was literally reading about that last night on how to remove it. But thanks for the advice Dennis. I have Filezilla but when I look at it I have no idea what I am doing
The background looks much better like that
Simplicity is great, take the Apple store for example, very simple and very user friendly and looks modern.
Another little thing, to go to the ‘Main page’ where it just says TrophyCaseCards, I would recommend having a link to it from the store. Just to make it easier for people to go back and forth from Store → Homepage → Collection or whatever.
On my computer it looks fine and all the links work fine. Just still doesn’t show on my iPhone unless I zoom but the links to the eBay, collection and contact work now just not the main title link in the middle.
Ok, I finally have a “better” main site up. Again, it is very basic but it is an improvement from the original page. Also, I think it will be much more user friendly and easier to navigate on computers or mobile devices.
That does look much better.
Having incorporated the ‘main page’ with the same design as the store gives it a more professional feel, rather than just a plain random page.
It’s also that bit friendlier as it has a little segment of information about yourself like Reina Sierpe suggested. Just giving a personal approach to reassure people it is legitimate and how you came to be.
So yeah all in all its going pretty good so far and I’m very glad it works on my phone with no problems!

I would reckon Skinst, it’s quite difficult to obtain such in depth scan as the card is in thick PSA protective plastic. It wouldn’t come out very well unless taking it directly from an image out the Japanese 2000 book.
(LOL I am such a child, I was going to PM Scott like I usually do but couldn’t resist stealing all of his cards )
Seriously though, it was only a matter of time before you got your own site Scott. Couple of suggestions:
Consider separating the hockey cards from Pokémon, since not everyone cares about both (obviously). Brianjapan’s store annoys me when it mixes those Hardrock pins with the Pokémon cards
Consider a wider page. Not everyone is on a tiny screen! (Although in fairness, quite a lot of sites I currently have open have a similar width. It just annoys me that there is so much screen estate that isn’t being used on these sites!)
haha I think that your site title is not catchy enough!
But I definitely have a lot of editing to do on the site. I have been trying to balance a lot of ebay adjustments/purchases/grading along with trying to figure out how I want the site to look. I think I will be slowly chipping away at it since I am still learning the providers interface.
Scott, I support your nice idea
I know you are currently building up the site, and it is far from being final, but I have an important advice for you. I would change the design of your welcome page. Although there is nothing wrong with it, its layout and colors look a lot like the pages of these “domain-trolls” (you know, the ones which quickly grab a free domain and try to sell it). At least for me this was the first thought when I saw it for the first time and I was already rechecking if I was on the right page.
Your shop already looks good! If you are still thinking about the design (especially colors), I recommend to use a blue/light blue interface as it is a smooth and calming color. Thats why facebook/twitter/myspace/etc all have blue as their main colors
Thanks for the opinions! That is what I need right now, honest feedback. I actually thought the design looked like something from 1995. I am still looking at their templates but the blue idea is a good perspective. I am trying to find a friendly/professional feel.
