man, if only you had a channel like pokerev or smpratte, then you could make a 6-part video on the upcoming PWCC. that’d help with some exposure. make sure to highlight the THICK STAMPS.
as for selling yourself vs pwcc, i would feel more comfortable having pwcc consign for you. selling items yourself is a lot of work, especially for high end items. it’s not like selling a 200$ psyduck vie eBay. there’s a reason why people don’t sell their donatellos, raphaels, da vincis on their own.
the thick stamp is a better design - much better proportion in my opinion. the clarity of the 1 is very nice also. i def see more people preferring thick over thin by a long shot. however, i feel like the 1st ed blastoise is harder to find in the thin stamp than thick stamp in PSA 10.

I am simply saying there is another side- one you clearly don’t want to hear. And it’s that when additional supply hits the market- the prices peak and sometimes move down. That is where we are now. Not for zard… or lugia or chansey or blastoise — or some others… but many cards peaked and are pulling back.
Is that temporary? Likely… but not if everyone dumps!!

I see them as different print runs. It’s not a printing/ink error. The stamps used are actually different. I see it like I see 1999-2000/4th/UK base different from unlimited base. The premium would go to the stamp which came first (thick). 1st edition base is difficult enough though I’d never sweat having mixed stamps. This is just my personal thoughts.

Any of the negativity here can be almost laughed off, as the price of entry for Marc was phenomenal.
At the end of the day, prices will fluctuate, markets will change, and opportunities will be both seized and missed. That’s just life, and part of the adventure. In my time as a collector, I’ve sold a lot of cards “at the wrong time” and could have made more money by holding. I sold a PSA 9 1st Edition Charizard for $700 and a PSA 10 1st Edition Lugia for $1600 years ago. Honestly though, I don’t dwell on it. At the time, I needed the money, and it was the right decision for me to pay off college debt and fund my other collection goals. I’ve also purchased massive collections that have appreciated immensely in value. You win some, you lose some. If your only goal in this hobby is to maximize profit and time the market just right, you’re going to have a bad time. The truth is that everyone’s situation is different. I wish you all the best @hyruleguardian, and everyone else on this forum. Win or lose, enjoy the experience and be content with your decisions, even when they don’t fully work out. If collecting were easy and we had all the right answers it just wouldn’t be fun.

Wow, I’m surprised that it’s already at $160k. People are actually willing to pay 5x the PSA 9 price for an SGC 10? It seems unlikely that it could be crossed over to a PSA 10. The card looks nice, but the surface might not be PSA 10 quality – impossible to tell from the photos.
There’s a simple answer to this question.
If it would have been a PSA 10, then it would have been graded as a PSA 10.
Severely misgraded but in a 10 holder just finished. Surprising the amount paid for the label and not the card
Weak 10 aside - more significantly, the card wasn’t labeled as “Base Set” just as “Pokemon Game.” PWCC did that too until recently but they could get away with it for the most part because PWCC gets a lot of attention anyway. To not have “Base Set” or even the word “Base” in the description is a killer. This card was just off the radar.
For some perspective, we also had a Red Cheeks Pikachu auction off for $7.3k today (more than what it sold for in last week’s PWCC). There’s no world in which Blastoise should “only” sell for 4x the Pikachu. But it just shows you what can happen when the seller does an extremely poor job with listing the card.
How did you get your complete set to PWCC?

Under normal circumstances you can’t get more than $1k worth of insurance with FedEx unless you are a business and have a special deal with them. But PWCC can you get a special shipping label with FedEx that actually does fully cover the cost of insurance even with shipments that are 7 figures. It took a few days to get the insurance values I was using approved and I also had to film everything I was sending off to PWCC.
I’m excited to see all the Holos and cards in the upcoming lot, hopefully I can grab one this time.
I wrote a program that scrapes and analyses all stats and sales of the PSA 10 1st ed Holos that takes everything into account, and it told me the objectively best card to aim for is a Hitmonchan right now. Too bad the card itself looks pretty meh
