I gotta share an experience I had with 4th print. Last week I bought a large wotc bulk collection from a dude who neatly had it all organized for me, the funny thing is condition ranged from played-nm, I was looking through the lot when I got home and to my surprise started seeing 4th print commons/uncommons and a few 4th print rares mixed in as well. He sold me about 4000 base set cards, and ended up pulling out 70x 4th print cards, what’s weird or cool I guess is that every single one of the 4th print cards was in near-mint condition or better. Makes me wonder more on the story of this collection, the only thing I know is that he purchased it 5+ years ago off of a guy at a flee market. Finding 4th print in the wild was so satisfying, that I think I’m going to try to go for at least the non holo master set for a binder. Overtime more people will find 4th print enjoyable to collect, I’m a new 4th print collector now, so whatever I’m missing I’ll try and acquire over the next year or two. Give 4th print the love
I think 4th print is nice, but I believe we have yet to see Shadowless really find it’s spot, it always seems to be stuck between 1st Ed and unlimited, and the varying prices reflect that
I think otherwise. Shadowless belongs between first edition and unlimited and the prices have been increasing accordingly. Definitely not underrated.
As far as 1999-2000 cards they are really niche. In most cases you can find them for good deals still like you could with shadowless years ago. The awareness of them is growing though.
As others have said, many don’t know even know about them - they’re also easy to miss. The first time I learned I had a 4th Print card was back when I was just a lurker to the forums and saw someone mention the date.
I think in time, as people look into Pokemon, you’ll find more completionists who are interested in them. Single Pokemon Card collectors who focus on variants also take a great liking to them for that reason. If people are interested in niche aspects like Thick/Thin stamps, they have more of a reason to be interested in 4th Print which shows an easy to find difference. As it is, 4th Print already demands a higher amount than Unlimited, so I imagine prices will rise for them overall.
You’re right, and the price for them is growing somewhat - the ones labelled “4th print” on auction sites have always seen a variety of bids and quite a few followers.
Agreed
But things’ll change immensely once PSA recognises the set ~
been looking at the pop reports there isn’t many! I know people graded them under regular unlimited before psa recognised 4th print but even then, finding 4th print cards in regular unlimited cases Its like looking for a needle in a haystack! trying to build a binder set currently I am enjoying the difficulty finding them
Hi everyone! I’m a newer member here and just stumbled upon this discussion. As “the Polish seller” of these cards, I’m grateful for the positive feedback. It’s great to hear that my customers are happy with their purchases.
As for popularity, the 1999-2000 cards are indeed very rare compared to the rest of the market. I found only this summary from PSA: https://www.psacard.com/pop/tcg-cards/1999/pokemon-game/57801
The Base 2000 booster packs themselves are not very popular, and additionally, not every pack with a holo will contain a 1999-2000 holo. Sometimes, WOTC would include ‘old’ holos from C1999
Actually, the Pokémon Base Set wasn’t very popular in Poland at all. Due to Polish regulations, only products with Polish labels ‘permanently attached to the packaging’ could be introduced to the market. This law is still in effect in Poland and applies to products from every industry. Therefore, if any Pokémon packs were available in Polish stores, they had to be marked with a Polish label. So, the Pokémon Base Set wasn’t very popular in Poland at all at that time, but if you could find them anywhere, they were only those with a Polish label and distributed by Hasbro. Hasbro had exclusive distribution rights in Poland
Yes, because 1) they come from base set packs, 2) they have the base set holo pattern
Also, “4th print” is a bit of a misnomer. It comes from the fact that it goes 1st ed → shadowless → unlimited → base 2000. In reality, 1st ed and shadowless are technically part of the same “run” and there were many print runs done for unlimited
