The Secret To Collectible Success

You might think the most important thing in my collection is my vast PSA 10 Charizard collection. Well, it’s not. The most important thing in my collection is in the same storage locker, in the same floor safe, and in a box next to the Charizard’s. It’s cash.

In a post I read earlier someone said:
“…I didn’t have the funds at that time:(” and that cost them a sweet deal.

For many years I’ve kept that little box filled so when an opportunity came a knocken’ I was ready to pounce. If I was short on rent or utilities or car payments or anything else, that little black box was never touched. It was to buy collectibles…period.

There is only one reason I have the collection I do and it’s because of the most important thing in my collection. That little black box.

I think a literal box of cash may be the secret to success in a lot of categories.

With current interest rates it’s not a bad thing to have cash money on hand instead of having it in the bank.

Have more cash. Got it.

The money can be in a bank. All Gary is saying is to have cash put aside for the big buys or for crazy deals that pop up every now and then, which I’m sure most serious collectors do. Collecting can get out of hand though, and a lot of people, rich or poor, live pretty much paycheck to paycheck.

Even if you have a $100k+ monthly budget to spend on collectibles, you might miss a deal that pops up at the end of the month if you can’t gather funds quickly enough.

I understand and believe me, there were many times I wanted to dip into it and many would say I should have. I just knew if I did that it would alter the way I felt about collecting and I wasn’t willing to take a chance of that happening.
I could tell you some stories and someday I may;)

Cash, yes, but how about gold/silver?

I am curious how many sellers here would honestly accept gold as payment. I’ve never initiated an offer like that personally so I don’t know.

It’s funny you say that, but I would 100% accept gold oz/bars in a large transaction. I must not be the only one.

I’ve accepted gold several times. Right now I have 5 1oz Standing Libertys and 8 1oz Buffaloes from a sports sale. I even auctioned one with a PSA 10 Zapdos lol.

The real secret:

“Have you got anything else available that isn’t currently listed?”

You’re welcome.

I saw the Zapdos… What a steal.(Was possibly fair market value at the time?)

Yes, it was actually a nice deal and only a couple months ago. It broke down to about 1200.00 for the zapdos which is worth 1800.00;)
