You might think the most important thing in my collection is my vast PSA 10 Charizard collection. Well, it’s not. The most important thing in my collection is in the same storage locker, in the same floor safe, and in a box next to the Charizard’s. It’s cash.
In a post I read earlier someone said:
“…I didn’t have the funds at that time:(” and that cost them a sweet deal.
For many years I’ve kept that little box filled so when an opportunity came a knocken’ I was ready to pounce. If I was short on rent or utilities or car payments or anything else, that little black box was never touched. It was to buy collectibles…period.
There is only one reason I have the collection I do and it’s because of the most important thing in my collection. That little black box.
The money can be in a bank. All Gary is saying is to have cash put aside for the big buys or for crazy deals that pop up every now and then, which I’m sure most serious collectors do. Collecting can get out of hand though, and a lot of people, rich or poor, live pretty much paycheck to paycheck.
Even if you have a $100k+ monthly budget to spend on collectibles, you might miss a deal that pops up at the end of the month if you can’t gather funds quickly enough.
"The most important thing in my collection is in the same storage locker, in the same floor safe, and in a box next to the Charizard’s. It’s PRERELEASE RAICHU.
I understand and believe me, there were many times I wanted to dip into it and many would say I should have. I just knew if I did that it would alter the way I felt about collecting and I wasn’t willing to take a chance of that happening.
I could tell you some stories and someday I may;)
I’ve accepted gold several times. Right now I have 5 1oz Standing Libertys and 8 1oz Buffaloes from a sports sale. I even auctioned one with a PSA 10 Zapdos lol.
