It’s so rare to see Base cards with 10 surface grade that I’d personally be inclined to keep in the BGS case.
If you crossgrade to PSA with the intention to sell, you’d have to show any buyers the original BGS grade and prove it was the same card and thus a strong 10. Easy enough for the first owner who crosses but becomes a pain if it keeps changing hands over the years.
There was a 1st Ed. Base Chansey BGS 9.5 with a 10 surface on eBay for a bit, and after seeing the surfaces of several of the same card in PSA 10s, that 9.5 started to look a lot more appealing to me.
It sold about 2 weeks ago. Sorry man. If anything, demand may be softening as more buyers find their Chansey. It could be the bright side to all the recent activity.
Unfortunately, we don’t know the value of a BGS 10, so I don’t think we can say that. Also, the bump to 10 is so significant to people that the premium on a 10 is probably huge. I think 73k for that charizard was right given the unknown and known elements of the card. In my personal opinion, that was a steal. I think psa 10 is definitely at 70k+ at this point based on the massive growths with all periphery cards. I think this sale will ultimate get the public be more comfortable with paying a premium on some BGS 9.5 cards because they are beginning to see the card quality not just a grade. I think that BGS 9.5 shadowless charizard with a 9 sub grade earned 7K+. That’s actually a pretty good premium over a psa 9. Overall, I definitely see BGS keep on trending positively and earning new price points that reflect their relative quality to psa, particularly in BGS 9.5s.
It’s interesting that there was a dry spell of the better part of a year in which there were no PSA 10 copies available on eBay and then seemingly within the period of a couple of months there were a few that sold.
The PSA pop has remained the same, so it seems like increased prices drew a few out of hiding.
I wonder if there’s more where that came from at these prices.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on youtubers live-streaming the pwcc auctions? Does this potentially hurt or help sales? For example does this promote more of a platform for shillbidders or more of a promotion for the actual card being sold?
I watched PokeRev’s last two. It certainly helps build extra hype which is typically fun but I don’t think it’s doing anything for sales. Usually Rev has like 4 seconds per tab/auction to bring it up. It doesn’t give people in the live stream enough time to even go bid lol
FYI – the BGS 9.5++ 1st Ed Base Charizard has yet to show on PWCC’s auction archive sale site. Items are listed once payment is processed. I usually give it a week before checking, which is enough time to suggest this sale did not go through.
Imho it would be best if they implement their own auction system on their website, charge people for a membership and ban them if they don’t pay/violate their conditions.
Sure, the traffic from people finding them on ebay might be still an important factor but they are already impossible to find on other domains than .com
They are too large of a business to sacrifice the marketing from eBay as that is what makes them so well known. I got into higher end items earlier this year, and until the last month or so, I never checked Heritage or other auction sites.
Yeah, sure that’s the problem. But as far as I know they’re pretty well known and established by now in their respective field. Only pwcc themselves know how much traffic they get through ebay/their own website though.
That’s what I am thinking since they scratched their international listings and build the vault. They’re probably waiting until their userbase hit a certain size so their potential loss is negligible.
They had their exchange marketplace on the site slated for release this year, but they’ve recently taken down any information regarding it. It used to be an option under the marketplace drop down menu on their site saying ‘Coming soon’.
From what I remember it was basically going to be a BIN marketplace where you list your items for sale and if they sell PWCC middled the deal (maybe I’m not remembering that correctly). I wonder why it’s not advertised anymore, it was on their site for over a year. Maybe they just want to push the vault marketplace instead and scrapped the Exchange Marketplace idea.
