I would rather have a clean PSA 8 or 9 than that PSA 10 with heavy silvering on the edges. It looks like it should be a 6 or 7.
If that buyer were to sell in the future, I think it would be a tough sell. In the end, these cards go to collectors, not investors. So a collector would need to buy that, and see how crappy the edges are.
More or less true, BGS 9.5s do usually get a tad bit more than a psa 9 from my experiance but nowhere near an exact halfwaypoint between 10 and 9 price. More like 110% 115% psa 9s
Probably more like Black Label > BGS 10 > PSA 10 > BGS 9.5 > PSA 9
Not the best example, but a BGS 10 1st edition Charizard goes for way more than a PSA 10
the BGS 9.5 to psa 9 is the real tricky area, my bgs 9.5 NS vaporeon did not sell very high and it was never a cracked psa 9 it did however get like 200$ more than a psa 9 would. PSA 10s are up in the thousands
Basically the same with all of the BGS 9.5s I sell which is quite a few since I keep all the 9s
Silvering looks way worse in scans than in person. PSA has been lenient on silvering for as long as Pokemon grading has been a thing. A large percentage of Fossil and Jungle cards come out of the pack with that silvering as it was a common manufacturing defect. If you don’t like silvering, don’t collect mint and gem mint Jungle and Fossil cards. You’re going to have a bad time.
Dang Ive got constant buyers giving me crap about 9s depending on cert numbers, we need more buyers like you I guess who will just buy the grade without looking
I graded a lot of holos fresh from boxes in psa 10 with terrible silvering. Jungle worse than fossil in my experiences. I never agreed that it shouldn’t count agaisnt them as to me they look awful. I’d rather have a psa 8 quality card due to a few white specs on the back than have a psa 10 that is silvered.
Judging cards separately due to how they were produced to shit quality shouldn’t be a thing. Leniency on peeled card corners and leniency on silvered edges for some wotc sets shouldn’t be a thing. It’s fine if cards don’t or can’t grade 10s just ask prerelease clefable.
I don’t buy the grade without looking, trust me. I just understand what PSA has docked for historically and I’ve made decisions accordingly. I would never and have never bought a graded card on Ebay and complained to the buyer about its condition. The silvering issue is not new. One of the first gem mint graded cards I ever bought had silvering and this was over five years ago now. I understand the frustration if this is new to some people and I personally wouldn’t assign gem designations to cards with excessive silvering but it’s clear that PSA graders see it differently.
That’s not a ‘flaw keeping your prized … card from that elite status of PSA 10’. No, no, it’s a unique and perfect specimen.
The corners are from a free-range life of being unconstrained - a good life to be sure. But did you notice, not a single eye piercing print line.
If there is an 8.5 and below subgrade, its a no. The sheer difference between an 8.5 and a 9 edge/corner is so obvious there should be an 8.75 subgrade. Anything 9 subgrade and above is usually nice.
If you’re referring to the PSA 10 Japanese GS Mew for a hair under $16k, I’m wondering the exact same thing! That was the only GS I was watching, so I can’t comment on any other prices
