As Gen 9 is coming to an end and the future of pokemon looms, we ask ourselves what is the next pokemon gimmick? As we all know for the past few gens we have recieved gimmicks in each generation, mega evolutions, z moves, dynamax and gigantamax, and terastallization. Some also consider regional variants, convergent forms and alternate forms gimmicks. I’ve had a few ideas over the years and I’d also like to hear yours, or maybe why you want previous ones back and how we could implement that like how megas are available Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
My ideas were:
Awakening forms. This could work like break forms in the tcg but have tweaks in design.
Have a special group of pokemon of each type be able to stand in for a short period of time in battles, working similar to geogans in bakugans.
Kidding. I think Gen 10 is already well into planning. BUT I think something like a temporary form would be nice. We’ve not seen a temporary form like transformations in MtG or other games. They might take the form of double-sided cards. haha. Which alludes to another thread…
Perhaps the next Mega, VMax, or Terrestialized would be ONLY in the active slot. I’d like to see a field mechanic finally come to pokemon that affects the mon, and not the moves.
I’ve been waiting for pokemon belonging to the villains since gen 5. However, Team Star doesn’t have the same appeal as the previous evil organizations like Team Rocket or Team Plasma.
Can you imagine: Rocket’s Kingambit… I can only dream
Megas are definitely the only gimmick I would like to see in any future Pokemon game but, ideally, I’d want the next “gimmick” to just be stage 3 evolutions, a new stage. It’s time.
The megas are far too good to remain in purgatory forever, and I think it’s sad that they’re chained to this gimmick. If they have to they can incorporate it into the story, just as there were once 151 species of Pokemon, there was once Mega evolutions that required stones and were in-battle exclusives. Now, thanks to some phenomenon, a new stage of evolution has been discovered and so on and so on. That would be ideal. It could even have some fancy title, like Evolution X or Super Evolution.
