This card annoys me because it came so close to also featuring a Pichu in the artwork. It was a cut-down version of artwork which featured on loads of different pieces of merchandise from the Kyoto Pokémon Center, like this towel:
Notice how Marill features fully in the Pikachu card, but Pichu has been completely cut out?
This is what the card would have looked like if they used a simple crop of the full image:
@pichufan Oh, I’ve actually seen that full picture before, but never compared it this closely to the card. But I agree, why did they have to remove Pokémon like that and change the overall artwork… I actually like yours better with the added Pichu, Pidgey, Enteit and Raikou.
Now that I compare that full image with the actual card, there are more things they’ve changed: Slowking and Politoad are both moved so they’re inside of the artwork, yet Entei, Raikou, Pidgey, and Pichu are removed. The bridge behind Politoad is also moved inside the artwork. The house at the right has been slightly moved upwards if I look at its position next to the Pikachu. The kettle at the front has been slightly moved down. The railing of the bridge has been removed.
The card itself looks still good, but it just looks odd if you compare the two side-by-side. And no happy Pichu at the lower left indeed.
In the process of searching for a hidden Pichu for @pichufan I found a ton of hidden Pokemon in Trainer/Supporter/Item cards. Some are more, some are less interesting. Here are a select few that could be interesting for certain species collectors of e4 (although they probably know them already).
Magikarp
Mew
This rabbit thing
And finally this one, which isn’t a hidden Pokemon, but rather a hidden human for a change (far left with yellow face, like he’s a Simpsons character → maybe Smithers?)
The mimikyu has a pikachu in the background! Also all 3 of these contain pikachu’s that I have never found before for my hidden pikachu collection so thanks for the post!
Here’s a cool one: Rocket’s Mission from Team Rocket Returns. The wanted poster seems to have images of three Pokemon. The bottom left is definitely Torchic. The bottom right appears to be Mudkip. The top one is Treecko (the lighter splotch is its eye).
Why these three Pokemon? Well, because they’re the three Gold Stars in this set! And it is Team Rocket’s Mission to collect rare and valuable Pokemon!
Just noticed on the score board of this Machop card there is a fairly weird pokemon on the right side. Anyone got ideas? I figure it might be from a Machop battle in the anime but I can’t find the episode
Not really many episodes of the anime with much focus on Machop. Straining my brain trying to conceive of what that Pokemon on the right could possibly be lol it’s killing me
Well spotted! I love it when artists get the chance to do intertextual or self-referencing artworks like these. Bonus points for the ink that got squirted in Meowth’s left eye, lol! The old squirt 'n run.
