Unions are not terrible organisations. They exist to protect the rights of workers. If you want to meddle in Australian politics, at least do a little research, especially along the lines of âWork Choicesâ (a terrible piece of legislation designed to effectively cut off many rights of the employee).
The real issue is the inability of middle management to performance manage their staff. Iâm not defending AusPost by any stretch of the imagination, but blaming unions because people are lazy is not productive.
Certainly not all unions are bad. Many have outlived their purpose though. I canât think of any other business besides government involved and union protected that could survive a 1.8 rating. The rest of us would be out of business. Imagine if Scott had 66% negatives. He wouldnât be able to get 5k for his illustrator lol.
Whilst I agree that AusPost is useless, the problem seems to be a huge combination of things.
From huge salaries for public servants, incompetent middle management, failure on service delivery and a complete lack of competition. These are just a handful of problems that contribute to their incompetence.
The major issue is competition. I live in Perth where we have one choice of Electricity providers, where we previously lived, Brisbane, had at least 4.
Needless to say we are now paying significantly more. Weâve even called our provider to ask why things are so expensive and they didnât hesitate to say âwell we are the only provider so we donât have to do any betterâ. Not even lying, thatâs what they told my wife.
Thats basically it⊠You shall pay more for less⊠there is no other way with no competition. And why is there this Union hate going on everywhere⊠Unions are good for the things. Liberal government will try and wreck anything that benefits the workinsers. Right now they havnât really acted on anything because there waiting for election to pass by and den der gonna show us there schemes xD Right now these are the words in Australia - Innovation, Technology, and Competition⊠hmmmmz where be these things. Competition alright⊠Competition so you can only chose one sociopathic company, and nobody else⊠Nice.
Ozenigma touched on there being no competition. That is the reason why these problems donât really need to be fixed, or at least with any urgency. They can literally say âWell who else are you gonna use?â
Competition is the greatest thing for the consumer. The iPhone or Samsung phone you are using wouldnât have nearly as many gadgets and advancements as it does unless the other existed. Itâs the same for basically everything.
Speaking about competition in phones. God the china phones rule⊠Theres like 10,000 different companies now, and they all sell mad ass phones that are much better build quality than Samsung and Apple stuff, and they have even better components/Features⊠Amazing stuff xD
This Phone is actually the shitty version of it⊠You can get the same awesome construction/awesome phone but with much better components for just 50 bucks extra if you really need it.
Begs the question with Sensors like that in a standard phone this cheap⊠WHY THE HELL IS YAHOO AUCTIONS FULL OF POTATO PHOTOBZ!
Do you guys have private courier companies in AU? I know Fedex and UPS deliver there, but are they easily accessible options?
This situation definitely looks like not enough competition. USPS is not as efficient as UPS or FedEX, but they are honestly not bad. Sure there might be that cliche government employee time and again, but overall for what you pay, it is a solid service. This is primarily due to having to compete with private companies. Americaâs wheel house is that open market competition.
Competition is most certainly key whether it be choices of service or quality of customer service. The latter is dependent on the quality of employee which is also determined by competition for the position. Most unions are mainly a safety net for incompetent employees. We actually have a USPS counter person that was so disliked by the regular clientele who avoided his station and so they moved him to the handicapped window. He complained to the union and they forced them to move him back. So the union protected this substandard employee and said FU to the customers. Ofcourse heâs only gotten worse.
I donât think we have things like ups a d fed ex⊠I think we might have like 1 shitty service called fast way courier or some crap, totally sucks compared to auspost xD
