~320 cards bulk submission from May of only Japanese old back holos / promos finally at QA check 2. Still have several thousand left to grade which I have been hoarding from since like 2016-2018 when they were still dirt cheap, just wish I sent in way more before the crazy delays and price increases but oh well it is what it is
Hey everyone! I have a quick question regarding grading. I doubt I will ever grade this card but how severely do psa take edge wear like this, where it can be seen from the front?
I believe the rest of the card is a strong psa 9 with the corners and centering, I would like to hear your thoughts, but I’m worried that if I was to grade a card like this in the future, something this small would knock it down to an 8 if not worse.
As a very quick summary, the biggest surprise this week is that 95 new holofoil WotC Black Star promo Eevee #11 cards were graded and 4 of which scored PSA 10. In April 2020 1,141 of these had been graded and only 8 copies had achieved PSA 10 grades. Fast forward today and 1,978 of these have been graded and there are now 19 with PSA 10 grades. Still an incredibly difficult card to grade, but not as difficult as it appeared this time last year for sure. (pokemetrics.org/sets/1qkk/b970)
There were also 13 Neo Genesis 1st Edition Typhlosion #17 cards graded in the past week, of which 1 achieved PSA 10 - only the second PSA 10 copy of those we’ve seen in the past 12 months out of 398 total submissions in this time. With a PSA 10 rate of just 1.26%, this was the 11th PSA 10 copy of this card to have been graded. (pokemetrics.org/sets/1uwk-1/11r7l)
More excitingly from my perspective though is that of 65 Neo Genesis unlimited cards graded by PSA this week only 1 achieved a PSA 10 grade and that card was Slowking - arguably one of the most difficult WotC holofoil cards to grade, being only the 3rd PSA 10 we’ve seen of those out of 295 total submitted. @forest would be an 8/9 depending on grader. For future reference it is much easier to help determine the whitening on a card if it’s on a black background… extremely difficult to see white edge wear on a white background lol
Does anyone with experience grading Team Rocket Returns know how PSA/CGC will see these “nicks”/chipping that are unique to the printing for this set? Here’s a Rocket’s Sneasel ex that’s otherwise mint, but with a couple of small flaws in the pictures below. Any advice/thoughts would be really helpful - thanks!
Given how many people across social media are convinced PSA will be adopting AI grading by the time of their next submission, I would like to announce that I am now accepting seed funding for my new company, MAGNA-GRADE. While I only have this web preview and not an actual demonstration of the technology, the main thing is that it’s cool and worth investing in.
@connorc , those are not factory flaws, FWIW. That’s actual damage, so they should dock for it. I’ve bought so many copies of those looking for ones without that silver speck damage. I eventually was able to acquire copies of all of them without the specks except of a PSA 8 Rocket’s Hitmonchan ex that I cracked, which does have a couple tiny silver specks on it (similar to your Sneasel). Based on that, you should have a shot at PSA 8 (though I personally feel PSA should dock more points for it – the card is missing ink )
thanks for this info, zor. i’ll probably end up selling it raw and posting pictures that clearly show the specks. unfortunately, rocket returns was the last set on my priority list to complete because i’d never been a huge fan of the exes, and now my wallet is going to suffer for it, haha
No problem. Even with the specks, the exs still can look great. They’re tough to notice except at an angle; I’m sure you’ll easily find a buyer for it.
And yeah, TRR prices have gone crazy! I’m thankful that I’m long done with that monster lol. Good luck with your set!
Hey guys, first time posting here. I got back a regular submission of 10 cards today, 7 of which had these weird white squares all over then, Luckily, my 2 10s and a 9 are okay, but I’ve submitted a request with PSA to see what’s up. Have any of you seen this before? Link to pictures
I recently got a sub back and the card had a few of these as well. It almost looked like little pieces of tape to me but I let it go. Now that I see this on yours as well I am wondering what is going on…
This is my 4th PSA return and definitely the only time it’s happened! I only noticed it on one card at first which was brutal, I forgot to upload the back of my Blaine’s Charizard. They destroyed me on the grade with a 6, I definitely think it’s because of whatever these specks are
Cards have been coming back with those plastic flecks in them for the past 2 months at least. They are assumed to be plastic castoffs from the sealing process they use on the slabs and it is doubtful they have any bearing on the grade the card was given. As far as I know PSA hasnt commented on them officially but people have noticed them on both sport and pokemon cards.
Wow, that looks nasty. Seems like it is debris of some sort.
I doubt PSA works in “clean rooms” like you find in the tech industry. But you hope they would at least try to maintain a mostly sterile work environment.
Yeah PSA is known to have those little white squares trapped in the case through their encasing process. I remember someone here having a video where he cracked a slab to show it wasnt damage but just some sort of particles on the card.
I also have these squares in like half of the few dozen slabs I graded myself, the earliest 2 years ago. I can see with cards that are moving around a bit in the slab that these squares likely don’t make contact with the card even when the slab is closed, they don’t move at all. Depending on where they are it can suck to have them of course, I had one on one of my favourite cards right on top of the Pokemon’s face
