I just have a thought of asking… If Neo Genesis Lugia BGS 9.5 (Usually is because of the surface e.g Holo Scratch) Then it should be a PSA 9 right? Is it worth the pricing of getting a 4 - 5k USD for a BGS 9.5 or a 2.5 - 3.5k for a PSA 9… Sigh…
What do you think of the value proposition of grading a NM unlimited Japanese reviving Legends scyther? I paid 65¢ for the card and I imagine PSA grading costs $20. There is very slight edge wear on the sides.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Unlimited is rarer than first edition for this set | it’s a common card from the set |
| POP 0 card | there are no comps, maybe artificially rare |
| Liberally a PSA 10 | Conservatively PSA 8 |
If a PSA 9 often looks like a BGS 9.5, why pay the premium? Just get the PSA 9 and save yourself a few thousand dollars.
@BANKS Finding a buyer for a common Scyther from an unlimited Japanese set is going to be harder than it seems. Although it may be artificially scarce, the demand just isn’t there. Will someone eventually buy it for their master collection? Probably. Is the time + money worth the wait for a small return? That’s up to you.
I love rare unlimited jp cards, but I don’t think it’ll add value for this card personally
Thanks for the feedback, I agree it’s not worth value-wise. Might do it anyway since I enjoy the card and would like to preserve it.
Thanks man… totally make sense !
Is it common sight nowadays that cards submitted to PSA come back with cases which have two different designs?
As an example here’s PSA 10 trio of Wild Force SAR beasts. Gouging Fire/Walking Wake have same case with flat area around the card, on other hand Raging Bolt’s case has a small ridge in same place and number 21 in bottom left corner is much smaller.

The slab on the far right is the new holder!
They are slowly transitioning to using them across the board, but weird that just one of your cards used the new holder.
If you compare the two you’ll feel the new holder is heavier too
Thanks for confirmation! I was hoping the answer would be this simple, it’s odd they changed case just for Raging Bolt. When I continue browsing certs further I find football cards which have old case once again.
Yup, these are the new holders! They mentioned starting with sports cards in May. Looks like the new TCG holders were rolled in around late June/early July perhaps. I imagine they will continue to use the older ones sporadically until they run out.
I have a 93xxxxxx cert with the revised holder but dont have in hand yet. They are supposedly clearer, heavier, and more scratch resistant? Also thicker as well
Thoughts on what this grades where I should grade it( BGS or PSA). Really low pop on either. The card is close to perfect besides a bit on the corners. Not sure if that’s enough to make it not get a BGS 9.5
Not sure on the Cradily, I would say 8/weak 9 isn’t unreasonable if the holo is clean.
I wouldn’t send the others personally: sylveon, shaymin and charizard have all noticeable corner lips.
Pichu has a bit too much wear on the right edge imho.
edit i just realised this isn’t the grading results thread lol
Always nice when you can pull something like this off!
Congrats on the grade bump! Did you crack it and resend it, or did you send it in for review in the case?
Crack and resub. Have seen maybe a handful of positive grade review submissions in my entire life ![]()
That’s the best way to do it imo ![]()
So I ended up not submitting anything using that $100 off coupon from PSA. Then today they send me a coupon for $50 off??

Ya messed up lol
Hi everyone!
Just revisiting this Lugia card.
Thank you all for your helpful responses!
To clarify, the small grey cube below “90” is a holo mark, not the Slab. It’s extremely difficult to spot in videos and online, so please take extra time to review if you’re considering a deal.
I spent a significant amount of time examining it and finally figured out why it’s graded as Surface 8 (the dealer kinda try to divert my attention to the holo instead of the overall). Hmm!
I understand that many collectors aim for high subgrades, hoping that a regrading or crossover might yield a higher grade for their collection or potential profit. However, if a professional has graded it as an 8, it’s unlikely to be a 10. Unless you’re very confident and can inspect it in person with multiple experts and professional tools
, it’s best to be cautious.
I almost fell for it myself, so please avoid making hasty decisions.
Thanks again!
