The Giant Professional Grading Thread

Do all grading services upcharge or is it just PSA?

Is there a reason for doing so? Seems excessive. What if I just want to keep it and not sell it? Forking out x50 of the price for you to do the same job… :upside_down_face:

The point of grading for me is to lock in the value and PSA does that the best. Even if its for your own collection you would probably want to keep the value in case you want to sell way down the road when you are all old and stuff. The upcharge is based on the value that grading gives to your card.

If you really don’t care about future/current value and just want to keep it forever best to use a random guy in basement grading service to get the plastic/get your own plastic or just keep it in a binder.

2nd out of 3 middleman order from feb/mar 2021 in coming back. This one was after the price increase when they were closing down altogether.
Still waiting on the 1st one in the $10/card scale I sent, have to love them having zero order to things whatsoever.

The stuff I grade I don’t plan on selling but for me grading cards I pulled 10years ago and getting good grades on them feels extra satisfying knowing I kept them in good condition as a kid

I’ve seen a few CGC error cards that were graded as errors even though they were submitted without this add-on ($5).

Should I just submit my cards and let them figure it out? Do I get upcharged if they catch an error that wasn’t paid for?

For background info, I’ve talked to a few people on eBay who didn’t know why their cards were errors and the CGC label on the back didn’t give enough information to figure it out.

We are finally in September! In this month, according to PSA statement, it should finish grading the whole backlog! How do you feel? Are you excited?

I sure hope they finish it. I’m desperate for the turnover times to go down

Has to be pretty close. Ctds are most mid 4/21 or later. A bunch of us have orders submitted June 2022 at the value tier in qa2

I’m going to grade a few cards now i sept, and is wondering how PSA is priceing a signed card.

Do they use the value of the graded card, or do they put a lot of value on the signing also?

Starts at $60 for Regular $995 value and increased by $60 increments. The price is same if you get only get the auto graded, the card graded, both or neither (authenticated)

I submitted 2 signed cards last week to their FedEx address at the $60 tier since i felt that the extra $120 for the next tier wasn’t worth what I assumed wouldn’t be too much different in terms of turn around time.

They value the card based on its graded value - but as you might expect it’s pretty subjective. You’re probably fine at any tier

What do you think about writing your credit / debit card number, expiration date, cvc code on a submission form? What happens if the package is stolen and an attacker uses this data? Or does some malicious employee store your payment information? Why can’t the grading company send you a payment link once it’s ready to upcharge you the grading fees like when you shop on a website?

When you make a submission with PSA, you enter your credit card information on their website, it doesn’t appear on the paper submission form you print out. What grading company is asking for CC info being hand written on a piece of paper? I would definitely not do that or grade with them.

I could be mistaken, but doesn’t the paper form for BGS have a box for this? Not that I’ve used it, but I believe it’s there.

Also a PSA: never use a debit card for things like this as it’s a way bigger pain in the ass if your info (and money) get stolen.

If BGS is still requiring credit card info hand written on a submission form, I’d hold off on submitting with them until they get into the 20th, much less the 21st century.

Do people actually use the paper form lol. I’ve always just submitted online with bgs.

Yeah but how cool is it when you get your subs returned via horseback?

Good to know, I thought the paper submission is required. Thank you

hey guys! my july special order has been at arrived for a little under a month now. does the process typically speed up once it passes this stage? things seem to be moving slowly… wonder if they’ll actually finish the backlog soon lol
