The Giant Professional Grading Thread

I’ve always seen patience pay off in the end with this hobby. Guess it depends on how urgently you need your cards graded. I’d personally just wait for most of my bulk submissions but I’ll probably send a few cards in at the 50 dollar tier.

Apparently, PSA is aiming to be done with its backlog within the first three months of the year, which means a lower tier will almost surely be opening up relatively soon (my guess is late spring/early summer). So I’m personally not sending anything in at $50 because I can afford to be patient. However, there are certainly a ton of cards that are a lot more viable to submit now than they were a month ago, so I would completely understand people beginning to send more cards into PSA now that $50 is open.

As far as less than $20 this year? I don’t think that will happen. I do think we will get back down to below $20 bulk eventually, but you’re probably looking at 2023 or maybe even 2024 for that. I’m sitting on a ton of Japanese stuff, English WOTC holos and English EXs, so I’ll be sending those in first once a lower tier (whether that be $20 or $25 or whatever) finally opens. I’ll probably be holding on to most of my bulk cards with the hope that bulk prices dip in the future. Most of that stuff just isn’t worth sending in at $20 a card, particularly in the current 2018-esque market where you pretty much have to hit a PSA 10 to make any sort of real profit.

How do you get into the que and or lotteries? I saw the 5 card submission thing in discord but I was unaware of how the process even happens

If PSA actually scales to 20M cards a year (currently at ~8-10M.year pace) then we will definitely get to $10-$20 grading costs again. We may even get to it in the next 1-2 years.

If you are grading for your collection, wait. We are at historically high pricing right now. Grading to flip then grade now at near the value limits for each tier as you’re going to be upcharged likely anyways. That said, the value limits are historically low for each tier as well and PSA has shown when they recently opened the $100 tier to the public that they are likely going to lift those over time as they lifted that one from $999 to $1499.

Ya I hear you. As far as collection vs selling it always depends on the grades unfortunately lol. If I get 10s then i usually stash those away (at least one of each if i get multiples) but then sell most of the 9s and lower to recoup expenses and try to make some profit. I’m just in the same predicament a lot are in right now from being used to 45 day turnarounds a couple years ago to orders being at PSA for over 13 months now.

Kinda starting to weigh the options of paying the extra $30 per card ($50 instead of $20) to get them in the mix and maybe have another order back by end of 2022 if lucky instead of well into next year if i wait for lower levels.

Hard Decisions…

Pay $100 to enter lottery for the chance to win the prize of submitting cards at $50 each. Oh PSA.

Gray area on illegal raffles/lotteries? Hmmmm. Probably not since you get other benefits too. Never change PSA.

$50 isn’t really open though, a lotto to maybe send a few cards in at $50 is open

Ya i see that now and been following the discussion. I guess i jumped the gun when i checked the status of my orders this morning and seen $50 Level was to be available. Did not realize there was all these hoops to jump through lol.

Hello guys,

how do you think printlines on the backside do affect the PSA grade?
When i hold this card in the right light i can see the printline.

(sorry for the bad photo)

If the front is pretty clean and the backside only has some whitening at the corners, but there are some printlines on the backside, do you think it can drop to a PSA eight?

Whitening on the corners can vary significantly. Would be hard to give an answer without additional pictures.

This ’printline’ basically nothing to the grade. Still a shot at a 10.

Everyone weighing up whether it’s “worth it” submitting for the $50 lotteries also probably need to bear in mind I’ve only heard that people got to grade FIVE cards total for the first lottery.

Not overly exciting for me to sit in a queue for an hour when I’m sitting on 100+ cards that I’d like to submit at that rate.

All you need to do is queue in over an hour window and then leave the window open. Come and check hours later if you want. Takes 60 seconds if you just tune in half hour ish before the event then just leave it. But yeah the whole thing is trash and later this year $50 should be open completely.

Wonder if when they open $50 tiers and lower if they will only be available to people with certain memberships.

Didn’t think of this before but…Would you pay $1k a year for a membership to be able to submit at $20/card? I know some people would for sure

Maybe not $20 for myself, but $10-15 depending on other available tiers, yes.

Hey has anyone elses submissions disappeared from the ludkins tracker? i had a order of 250ish cards that was in grading on the ludkins tracker last week but now when i log in nothing is on there. Emailed ludkins last friday and havnt heard anything so was just seeing if anyone else has experienced this

I had something similar happen in my last return. My order had reached the “Shipping” phase on the tracker. Ludkins then removed it from the tracker before they contacted me. Of course a couple days later Ludkins did contact me and sent the returns to me. Had I not been checking the tracker every day I could have easily missed it and assumed it just disappeared from Grading.

In your case it is possible that your order jumped directly from Grading to Shipping and so Ludkins has already removed it from the tracker. Many of my orders have jumped multiple stages in a single update. If I had to guess I’d say Ludkins probably isn’t updating the tracker every day. It’s either that or PSA isn’t updating it on their end frequently enough, because quite a few people on E4 have had similar experiences with multi-stage updates occurring in a single day.

Probably but really also depends on quantity limits and consistent turn around times. If you told people they could pay $1000/year membership for a consistent 200 cards/month at $20/card with consistent say 90 day turnarounds, I am sure people would do that.
