The Giant Professional Grading Thread

@muk, that is definitely not typical for an 8. Clearly a misgrade, sorry for your misfortune with that card :slightly_frowning_face:

There can be really good value in typical PSA 8’s.

Unfortunately it is not a matter of what we think. The fact is that it could go as a non auto 6, meaning any grade above, or it could be 6’d. There are examples of people with 8’s here on the forum that are way worse offenders on the edges, in multiple places.

Should it get auto 6’d? I think it would be nice if they were consistent, and it was known whether or not that would. I’d say that is different than an indent or bend or crease. It is a ā€œdingā€ on the edge. That isn’t covered in their, shall we say, memo. And dings, condition wise, are different from indentation, bend, and crease.

In short, it could go either way mate. Look at this ā€œ8ā€.

@muk all your card does is further disillusion me. I mean, it’s funny how SuperSaiyanAmpharos joked that it is lucky for you it got an 8, but as a buyer that sucks. If you’re one of those people submitting for grading with the intention to sell, sure great, it’s great for them. But for us buyers you do not want an 8 like that. And no! It should not have been an 8!

We might as well submit all and just get their dartboard treatment! My god!

Haha the dartboard treatment! It for real seems like that sometimes sadly. I apologize if I came off rude at all with my joke I agree it sucks to receive a card like that:( and I just recently had a similar situation. Even though it says PSA (whatever the grade) the seller should always show clear pictures of the card cause as we’ve seen, some grades definitely aren’t accurate.

@supersaiyanampharos, do not apologize–I was on the same page. It was not rude whatsoever. And I agree completely. I actually JUST bought a 9 and so this whole thing hit home. Weak ass 9. And what is crazy is that a 9 is SUPPOSED to mean mint. At least 8 or 7 is subjective. MINT is not subjective. Allowing for print defects, it should mean ZERO wear and tear because, well, a mint anything is NEW. Anyway, the 9 I got has scratches on the holo. One of 'em is actually huge. Not print lines, scratches. If we didn’t already know how fucked PSA is, I’d be asking, ā€œif this is a 9, and considering how clean the 7’s I have are, what is an 8?ā€

But we all know, SuperSaiyan, we all know. DARTBOARD!

How have CGC bulk turnaround times been for people lately? I sent in a bulk sub that was received by Ludkins in late October (2.5 months ago) and I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m not in a rush, but I was just curious if this is typical right now? I’d like to send in another bulk submission but if it’s going to take 3+ months I may just go with PSA.

They’re like the grading worlds UGLY stepdaughter. Their biggest problems are poor quality cases and horrible ugly blue, billboard sized labels. Hopefully they’ll get the message and correct those problems. I haven’t heard many negatives with their grading numbers.

I think you might be confusing CGCs beautiful blue label with PSAs ugly bland red one

Let’s see.

  1. A HUGE BLUE label in a case a little girl can open in her hand
    or
  2. small bland label in a safely sealed case.

? hmm? Which do I want to display my beautiful and valuable cards in?
Tough choice lol.

Now I’m not defending psa. They are horribly managed for a 25 year old company. It’s just that CGC has an awful product that’s hard to get past in order to dig deeper.

I bought this promo card recently - love the cosmo foil which isn’t available in the Eng version.

The card is generally fairly clean but there is (i) a white nick on the top edge at the back and (ii) a small printing imperfection / dot on the right edge at the back. Do you think it has a shot at PSA 10 which I understand has some leeway for imperfections (but I do not know how much damage is still within PSA 10 parameter…) or go for the BGS 9.5?

Thanks all

Ludkins has been sending bulk orders usually within a week of receiving. I’d assume 3 days for delivery in normal times. CGC then has a two week registration delay on bulk due to volume, 30 business day expected turnaround, another 3 days back to ludkins and 3-5 days back to you. That’s 75 calendar days give or take. It shouldn’t be too much longer than that unless they’ve gotten a lot more volume. I also am waiting for an order from very early November and received an order from October 19 back in the first week of December. Neither was huge…about 25 cards each.

I have a late October in as well, nothing yet. Same boat though, likely won’t submit to CGC again

@shim0da ,it has a chance. Until the grader touches that hair near the fire energy symbol and spontaneously flings the card out of his hand into the floor, thus denting a corner.

Before you say it, yes, a pet (dog, cat, etc), I know

I’m not defending cgcs case quality, simply the label which I think first and foremost is subjective but personally better than PSAs. And god forbid you actually be able to read the label. I mean look at this garbage lmao

Thanks @gengaranimal - I laughed too hard

And I was thinking of leaving the hair there for good luck

I’m curious of the logic behind this when the alternative is at 8 months or longer turnaround?

@shim0da , what is that card officially called? It is so hard to find just because it is not officially named and it bugs me to no end. P promo, E card promo, lottery, etc. I need to get to the bottom of this. I can only find a few on ebay, all graded 10’s and stuff. There’s no way there aren’t weaker raw cards available. How much was yours?

@brendantheclayboy, I found mine on Yahoo Japan and paid market for it.

You can use Buyee or one of those middleman sites to search using the following term, which basically translates to Pokemon Card e-Lottery Charizard

Hope it helps

My sub was entered into the system 2 days ago after arriving on around the 23rd. Unfortunately looks like the turnaround times have doubled to 60 days rather than 30. Not sure what’s up with yours though, you should’ve gotten it back by now
