With the help of @The_Professor330 's post (Orannge’s collection (Starmie and Dragalge) - #27 by The_Professor330) I think I found the missing link to answer my question above:

At least it is a good start for more research.

A post was split to a new topic: Seeking Info on a McDonald’s Card

This topic already is a great place for knowledge about non-tcg cards.
Maybe good to share a project here that has been worked on for the past year on the wiki:

There still is a lot missing there, but the information is in greater detail.
Important sets I was missing in the topic here are Dunkin Boomer:

And of pokemon Lamincards (by Edibas):

Of those sets almost everything one could want to know is on there, like pictures of all cards, boosters and boxes.

Anyone got a clue where this card comes from? I’ve got several other similar ones, also numbered but without any text. The back is plain white, and the size is slightly smaller than regular TCs.

Looks like a bootleg with the copy/pasted mixed artstyles, particularly evident in the dual Sugimori raichus that mirror eachother and a completely different style art dragonair.

I would also tend to bootleg because of the mentioned double Raichus.

Would love to see the other ones though. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Are the Bandai Club Part 1 cards really considered as the true official release rookie cards ? I read this here and there, but the info about them are so hard to find.

I haven’t done any thorough recearch myself but i’ve read in multiple places that they are the first official flats released, i’m not sure how reliable the day by day timeline can be from those times but that’s the prevalent understanding

That could be true, I have the other ones here

You see how the art is reused and usually just flipped or size changed? Dragonair, togepi, ditto, etc, generic rainbow backgrounds, “alternate” colors like on poliwirl and raichu, these kinds of things are common for bootlegs. There are very few older merch items that use alternate colors like poliwirl being blacn, but never brown. Same for cut and paste art, legit is usually sugimori art but not multiples on the same card.

All these are bootleg.

Lol at that Pikachu just chilling at the baths. These arts are just recycled from the many postcards and other arts. So unfortunately bootlegs.lack of any copyright information just confirms the same.

Cheers!

I’m not sure if this is the place to ask but I came across these weird cards on eBay and was wondering if anyone knew what they even are. The seller has a ton of them but wasn’t much help when I asked what they were. It looks like they’re from two different products or games, but I couldn’t find any results with searching for the cards or logos or searching “Pokemon ID” from the Aggron. Are they weird knock-offs? A fan project? Some obscure official product? If anyone knows I’d love to figure this out.

This is exactly the right place to ask, welcome to the forum! For example the lack of copyright info on salamence and the tcg elements (V, set numbering and logo, hp etc) used on aggron suggest that they both are bootlegs

Got it, that is good to know. Thank you!

Google translate says the Salamence on the left evolved from Kabutops, so this one is also probably bootleg. Looks cool though

Was there ever a determination on where this style came from? (Pic from reddit)

I don’t think that thread came to a conclusion about where they originated from.

Just did some research and those should be the backs of the Banpresto Battle Chips (if not, pls correct me):
