I have an opportunity to buy a raw Korean Mewtwo HR Competition Promo 363/SM-P (the one where only 36 were made) (Japanese here), but I just don’t know enough about the market to know whether it’s a good investment/purchase in the first place. Does the fact there’s 36 and not 1,200 copies mean the price will be exponentially more, or does the lack of demand for Korean promos mean it would be lucky to ever sell for as much as the Japanese? I’d love to hear people’s opinions on this.
Tropical Wind had a distribution of 180 whereas Unikarp had a distribution of 1,000. Whilst both are very rare cards there are 5 Unikarps for every Tropical Wind, so I’d argue they are in completely different leagues in terms of rarity.
Do you collect Mewtwo cards? If so I’d say an opportunity to acquire a card this rare is one you should seize if it’s affordable to you.
As for their overall value, right now the market strongly prefers English and Japanese cards over other languages, however I imagine that will start changing now that PSA are starting to grade all languages. If you’re only looking for a quick flip I’d say right now there are better ways to spend your money.
Thanks so much for your reply! I don’t collect Mewtwo, but as you know I’ve been living in Korea for the last few months so I’m trying to make the most of that. I wouldn’t be looking to flip it and I’d definitely hold on to it for a few years, grade it and then hopefully. At the end of the day it would be more of a way to fund my other collection goals instead of a collection goal in itself if that makes sense.
I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Tell him to throw up on eBay for 750$ and it’s sold. Not kidding here. I’d buy it not for its price nor for future speculation. Having a 36 copy card is something unique for a personal collection and you found it at a price your average Joe could afford. I collect all languages though.
