What chase card is in these packs? I know they’re a lot rarer than Tomy series 1 (I remember being tempted to buy boxes of these at 4000 yen each), but that price astounds me.
Thanks. Yeah, this is my expectation… Anyway, the cards look fantastic in a binder so I’ll probably just leave my vintage J-cards in there and stick to grading mostly modern stuff that is a bit easier to judge. But I’ll be sending off a submission to PSA Japan in April hopefully so I might throw in a couple rough cards as an experiment and see what comes back.
About that raw dented Espeon Play Promo that sold a while ago: Where exactly was the dent? I have looked at the auction site and I don’t really see it (for those who want to check, it’s here ). Bottom right corner maybe? And there was a previous listing where the dent was more visible?
Had been getting $600-800 offers on my eBay listing all week, I knew this would end higher than some recent sales indicated. Hadn’t seen any loose copies of this Charizard below $5-600 so I knew the gap between PSA 10 and raw was too small. Last data point on eBay was a $650 obo that sold in the middle of February. Huge shoutout to @fourthstartcg who told me to buy this back in January…
Just curious if anyone has travelled to Japan and been able to find vintage boxes for good prices or if the market is the same for them there. Would love to go to Disney there sometime and pick up some vintage stuff while I’m there!
The previous listing showed it really well, it was in the upper right corner, very visible from the backside. When the seller relisted the card, he was very intentional about hiding and not uploading any pictures that showed the damage.
Original listing ended around $18k and then the buyer didn’t pay, seller then posted that listing you linked and it sold for the buy out price within the hour
I highly doubt it, but we can dream. The online supply of boxes pre DP is basically zero atm and has been for months. There is better availability on ebay. The only exception recently has been ADV Magma VS Aqua when inexplicably 17 boxes showed for auction.
What Im assuming happened is that the 2nd listing was specifically made for the 2nd highest bidder. That explains why the up close dent pics & such weren’t in the 2nd one. Also explains why it sold instantly since they were probably made aware when it was going up.
But I mean its also possible it was just instantly bought because the BGS 9 went for $23k and this was the “cheap” alternative
Umbreon looks to be dent free though, can anyone see anything?
@kpod, @crystalcollector149, @casual, I see, never would have suspected one of the upper corners just based on the pictures from the last auction. Pictures are a scary thing, even good looking ones can hide blemishes. What are your feelings about the Umbreon, since it’s the same seller that “hid” the dent of the Espeon at the second auction? Worth the risk? I have also translated the description and the seller even states that he will cancel a winning bid if the winner has negative or no feedback (if he’s new). I’d really like to bid here, but seeing the seller I’m skeptical, and my first experience with buying from Japan was less than optimal. You wouldn’t want to lose $25000 just because the middleman service takes zero responsibility if the seller runs with the money.
The only thing I will say is that Yahoo Japan is a completely different animal from eBay. On eBay you can just willy-nilly throw your money and plead with eBay to be protected from the buyers perspective. Yahoo Japan is more like the wild west. Only spend/gamble what you’re willing to lose. Also on Yahoo Japan the seller can delete whosever bids they want, and it is very common for them to shill their own items while having you increase your bid at the same time, and then at the very end delete all of their own fake bids to have you to pay your absolute highest bid. I cannot count the number of times I was outbid on an item, then all of a sudden 10 minutes later after I’m well out of the running I get an email stating I won it for the exact amount I put as my max bid. Very shady indeed.
You won’t be able to tell if the umbreon is dented in the pics just like you wouldn’t of known the espeon was dented if you only saw the second listing. According to the seller neither cards are dented but from our trained eyes we can tell that wasn’t the case
@ripguyfawkes@crystalcollector149, I’m sure they’ll get people in the questions box asking for more picture of all angles, it was just put up. And with a middleman you’re not going to lose the whole amount, just make sure to get your middleman to take pics and send them to you.
You’ll only be out the fees WORST case I think? So if you won it for $50k and then the seller for some reason decided to send you nothing, you’d lose just the middleman fees of 3% I think
I don’t think the seller hid the espeon dent. I just think the seller doesn’t know how to determine the condition of the cards which many don’t. Many say Japanese cards are easy to grade but I don’t agree then cards are much softer and way more prone to dents/pin holes which can result in PSA 6-7 grades. More times then not you buy cards from these sellers and they really don’t know what to look for. This is why PSA grading becoming bigger in japan would be so much nicer
@casual, that’s not what zenmarket told me. They specifically demanded me to transfer my money using a different method than paypal, as they most likely don’t want to deal with chargebacks. They also repeatedly asked me if I’m ready to take 100% responsibility if the seller runs with the money after they transfer it to him, meaning you are not guaranteed to get any money back.
