I don’t know about more valuable necessarily, but my understanding is that certain Japanese sets had a smaller print run of unlimited variations versus their 1st edition counterparts. I believe Split Earth to be one of those sets, yes. I guess it could be inferred that they may be more valuable simply because they are more rare.
From my experience filling in my binder, for those 2 sets, unlimited is slightly harder to find, but not really more expensive since some people prefer 1st edition.
When you get into sets like the L and XY, unlimited is stupid hard to find.
Hope this helps, I wouldn’t pay extra for unlimited for those earlier sets.
Thanks for the answers guys, much appreciated!
For the same price, I would take the rarer unlimited version. Preference can change over time. Print run cannot.
Do you think the price of 25th anniversary singles will go down?
I waited a very long time before buying Umbreon because I knew that at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, people who had pre-ordered the Golden Box would receive it, with the 5 promo packs each, and therefore I thought that eventually the price would go down even further. But lately the prices have doubled. I can no longer find a good price for Umbreon T_T
I bought mine for about $85 a week or so after release, I FOMO’d that Umbreon. Then it went down to like $40-$50 within a month of release, and now above $100. I don’t see it going down. It’s the reprint version of a $50k card in Japanese.
On another note, the promo packs are searchable with a flash light, so it’s fair to assume most Umbreon cards have been pulled from loose packs already out there, so supply won’t increase too much. Lot’s of people will probably keep those new boxes coming out sealed.
I wonder if the sudden increase is due to the increase in that Vmax Alt Art
Honestly, i kinda have a hard time believing 25th anniversary cards arent gonna retrace a little bit. The whole japanese modern market feels pretty inflated rn.
Granted, i agree with the sentiment that umbreon is a good card (best in the set imo), but i think its a little soon to say the card wont come down and that most of them have been opened. The card went from like $60 to close to $200 in under 3 months. The sets barely a year old and a large made to order reprint just hit in August. Personally, im just gonna wait it out, i wouldnt worry too too much, but thats just my opinion.
Edit: the vmax umbreon has been going crazy since it released, so i dont know if thats the correlation to be made. Rather, its indicative of the overall Japanese market at this time, imo. I wouldnt touch that card with 10ft pole unless it came down significantly in price, and maybe it wont, idk, but u gotta consider the cost of ur mobey, yknow?
Yea this is why I’ve been searching down and buying the special set/ convince store bundles. The promo packs actually are sealed in the boxes, making them one of if not the only product that has unsearchable 25th anniversary promo packs.
I got mine for ¥2500 back in march… Which felt like a really nice price. Now I feel sad I didn’t buy more than one copy. I still have four unsearched promo packs lying about, but I think everyone will assume they are searched…
Seems like to me in the japanese pokemon market, modern is much more in demand, barring limited promos and trophy cards.
In the english market, it’s the opposite.
Difficult to see popular japanese special arts dipping heavily in value unless they print way, way more.
Did anyone get their VSTAR Universe Lottery results? They were due on Friday 18th but once again I didn’t receive the results email. I guess no one else has this problem but that’s two lotteries in a row I haven’t a received a results notification with the temporary charge still sitting on my card. I’m not using a middleman, my credit card is a Japanese one and my address info etc is a Japanese one. I’ve won and lost lotteries before so this is just weird now.
Got my usual emails last night.
We regret to inform you due to strict lottery you were not selected.
Lol so definitely something is going wrong with my account then. I don’t even get their standard newsletter emails anymore. I did check and I haven’t blocked their email by accident. Second time in a row without even getting an email. I still have the last temporary charge from Paradigm Trigger still sitting on my card. Something is definitely up.
Edit - So the refunds even for Paradigm trigger may not have started yet according to the original application email. But the no email thing is straight up weird.
Yep, i received the bad news last night for vstar and the okinawa playmat. I cant believe i cant even win a friggin playmat!! Maybe their emails are getting filtered into your spam or junk?
I had some good luck prior this but now I don’t even get any acknowledgement of my bad luck LOL
Have never won a single lottery from them and I applied for almost all of them…
Ah a man with taste I see! Don’t mean to rub it in right after you get rejected, but can’t forgo the opportunity to remind the world that this absolutely gorgeous playmat exists. I freaking love looking at it every day
Anybody get lucky on that Amazon.co.jp VSTAR Universe lottery? I haven’t heard anything back from that one.
Luckily, nin-nin-game had VSU go up yesterday morning (earrrly, 6 AMish – I missed it). Limit 6 per customer and best price I’ve seen so far. They will be adding more preorders “soon”
In the long run, this one shouldn’t be hard to get. But I’ve learned to not underestimate fomo.
I have not gotten the amazon pre order email yet. I’ve got a few boxes on order right now - my plan is to chill out now and wait to see what happens with the price. If it goes down, great - I’ll grab a few more. If it goes up, great - I’ll feel good about the ones I already purchased.
