Seen so many occurrences on PSA’s own eBay page where they’ve mislabelled/graded regular JP base set as ‘no rarity symbol’ and listed those cards with the no rarity premium. Here’s a live example that took me 10 seconds to find:
Nice little niche market for deliberately mislabelled submissions. I’d love to know the wider impact on pop reports and how many people have actually bought mislabelled cards from PSA themselves.

-scam an eBay buyer
-scam whoever graded the ‘96 Coro Pika as a NR Base Pika
-scam themselves out of the Coro.

I think it’s assumptive that it’s always deliberate. PSA’s cards entry search is terrible. I recently entered 2-3,000 cards in a matter of days and noticed a few unintentional incorrect entries. Some were Korean instead of Japanese, or jp 1st ed when unlimited. Even Japanese base I had to double check at times as no rarity would default. For certain cards you have to find the exact words in the precise order to get the correct entry. I’m sure some do it deliberately, but just wanted to emphasize there is a good chance it’s accidental as PSA’s entry system is brutal.
So true, and one of the (admittedly numerous) reasons I reverted back to middle manning subs from the UK. It’s so much less hassle.
I don’t for a second believe there’s any deliberate shenanigans from PSA’s side and it’s all easily explained like you say (not to mention the minuscule amount of time graders will actually be looking at each card), but I can’t help but see the humor in the fact that the whole premise of a no rarity base card is that it has no rarity symbol and should be one of the easiest error identifiers I did actually used to message PSA when I was actively buying NR, and they’d respond pretty quickly by taking the auctions down, but it seems to happen so frequently now I just can’t be bothered lmao
PS in terms of ‘deliberately mislabelled submissions’ -yeah that’s just a bit of tongue-in-cheek based on how ubiquitous all the chadballer69 dodgy dealings have become now

well for no rarity specifically the pokeman trader card the pop must be inflated tf out coz i seen many 10s but never seen a 10 of the actual no rarity version
it doesnt help that the new investor bros have no idea what some cards are supposed to look like see the numerous sunfaded poncho “psa 10” crap on pwcc/alt
the dropdown doesnt even pull up the correct card if u type it exactly like the psa label a lot (most?) of the time i mostly just give up and do it as a manual entry
