The Giant English Market Thread

Ahh yeah, that all makes sense @eeveeteam @needszeebs @mrtz I guess I’m immune to this stuff cuz I hardly check out those sources  appreciate the insight

It’s best to not check out those sources. It makes collecting much more fun without the noise

Pretty crazy that these 3 booster boxes are the only ones in stock on Pokémon Center. Here is my 2025 prediction - TPCi is sitting on Surging and Prismatic stock in a warehouse, making it seem like supply is low, so the suckers investors will buy up all the unsellable sets. Then magically in March a huge wave of the newer sets is in stock.

I think that that’s a pretty fair analysis I agree with everything in that is said here except for I don’t think that battle styles will sell out for a while that set is good in my opinion but now people mainly care about how much they can sell their cards for online even if they don’t sell them they still compare there collection to the amount that you could sell them for which I don’t love but it is what it is doesn’t change the fact that people don’t like battle styles and people are entitled to their own opinions though so nothing to do

Supposedly the PSA 10 on Fanatics sold for $8,500. If true, that’s about 2.75x more than the most recent sale in 2023.

I would take all BIN sales with a huge grain of salt since a ton have been going unpaid the last few weeks

I agree.

I’m under the impression that some sellers are trying to take advantage of Fanatics Collect BINs by making fake sales to affect the consignment rate that they will get and the sales history of their item.

For example, someone “bought” this Meiji Ancient Mew for $9,985, despite two copies being available for under $1,500 on Fanatics and eBay.

The card was relisted for, you guessed it, $9,985. But now it has the fake/inflated Card Ladder and Sales History Price.

Because they made this fake sale, they now get a cheaper consignment rate because it’s a “Great Deal” and they can scam other customers into believing the fake sales history.

Nailed it! Even more insidious than I imagined but I think you are spot on

Given the bubble environment that we’re currently in with each auction ending higher than the last and some cards hitting record sales, there’s probably more incentive for people to try and play the market like this.

How do you fake a BIN? I haven’t bought BIN on fanatics before, do you not just pay as you buy?

The purchase may be real (e.g., payment went through and the card was paid for), but the owner could have coordinated it with their own account or a family member/friend. After paying Fanatics their cut (12%), $1,200 in this case, they relist with hopes that they’ll sell the card again for many thousands of dollars and recoup their initial scam “investment.”

Now on their second sale, they’ll get 6% back because the card is listed as a “Great Deal.” So even if they sold it at $3,000, they’d get $2,820 ($1,620 profit).

that would assume that ebay buyers actually check pwcc bins

to be a “great price” on pwcc u just need to be within like 200% of market price

Everyone uses 130point nowadays or has free cardladder through psa club!

EDIT: The ebay links below aren’t working and I’m too lazy to look up the relevant listings again, so y’all just need to take my word on prices lol.

I wanted to note the major (and expected) price correction on the SWSH sets that exploded in price a few weeks ago. Take Lost Origin for example:

As of Late-December, Booster Boxes were selling for around $250:

And reached a peak of the low to mid $400’s by the first week of January:

As of Feb 1st, prices have fallen all the way to the low $300’s and a few have even dipped into the high $200’s:

Buying activity has slowed up considerably as well, for example: 8 cases of LO BB’s sold between Dec 30 and Jan 7 on TCGPlayer, since then not a single one has sold:

The trend is very similar for BB’s on TCGPlayer.

Damn is this rly how much English boxes cost nowadays :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Have they substantially increased the prices or am I missing something here? I thought they were like $140 CAD last time I was buying them a few years back

MSRP increased with the change to S&V

Maybe i was just unknowingly buying below msrp cause i dont recall paying $186 for any SwSh sets either lol

Pokemon Center prices in the past had been higher than a LGS, so that may have been it. Now with the product shortages, you’re just lucky to be able to buy anywhere near MSRP.

186 cad is about 130 USD nowadays which seems in line but yeah definitely used to be cheaper in years past

Honestly, I know local weather doesnt = climate, but i went to the mall a few days ago and was looking for Pokemon cards just to see if the situation was really as bad as people have been saying in terms of product. Every single store I went into had products available for MSRP or slightly above. It wasnt the most abundant selection, but there was certainly packs for multiple SV sets on the shelves.

Again, I know my personal experience isnt the entire market, but I was mildly confused I was able to find product in multiple stores with minimal effort, given what people are saying
