The Giant English Market Thread

His original post suggested 40 boxes in the hands of E4 members, which when questioned by me, he could only name
members owning a total of 9, the rest are not on this forum. Stop getting so emotional and read carefully
before putting your irrelevant 2 cents in :slightly_smiling_face:

Brief general value/market question:

I have a near complete NM-M Shadowless Base Set. Already sent off all the holos to get graded. It seems like the market is exploding for pretty much everything Base… Are there any commons/uncommons in there besides the starter preevolutions that are trending upward that I should keep track of?

Arcanine, Growlithe, Kadabra, probably Haunter and Nidorino in my opinion, even though the latter 3 are prevos to others…

To be fair: you didn’t really address my conclusion. My conclusion was not “I can name E4 members who collectively own 40+ boxes.” Instead, I made the inference that, if I’m personally aware of ~10 boxes in the hands of E4 members, then there are almost certainly significantly more than that in the hands of E4 members. I would be confident in drawing quite a few conclusions through similar inductive processes; for example:

  • I’m only aware of two E4 members with EX Deoxys boxes. Given the number of members on this forum who don’t disclose ownership of most items in their collection, it’s highly likely that there are significantly more EX Deoxys boxes owned by E4 members than I’m aware of.

Is the above conclusion necessarily true? Of course not. This is the nature of conclusions reached through inductive reasoning – we can’t deduce anything about the number of 1st Ed. Base boxes in existence because there isn’t enough available information. Many people on this thread (not you necessarily, but some people) somehow don’t realize that I’m not concluding that something is absolutely the case. I’ve stated a gazillion times that no one knows exactly how many boxes there are. Given that I acknowledge this, it should’ve been clear that my argument was inductive and therefore not making any sort of absolute claim.

Pretty much every one at this point. Even Rattata is going for $100 now.

Is this a good price for a PSA 9 Shadowless Venusaur?

I think that’s about what I’ve seen them for recently. I think that’s a bit on the higher end though.

A PSA 9 Unlimited Shining 'zard sold for $3200 :open_mouth:

Penguinz also makes a lot of Pokemon videos www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NtAPBzskdo and has 6.5m sub subscribers. Think there are a lot of medium big channels around 1-2m doing it too, that I can’t point to atm. It’s really blown up.

crazy times

I feel in my gut that modern prices must crash. No way it holds. I do think that rare PSA 8/9/10 vintage stuff will hold to some degree.

seems to me that PSA 9 base zard is already ‘tanking’ from its high

I like the modern cards but, they definitely are what I am avoiding in this current climate, plus right out of the box some of these cards are already more expensive than a good portion of vintage cards that I would rather chase after.

1st Ed’s? They aren’t tanking. This is what happens when people went from asking $40/50k overnight to 80-90k. It’s preposterous and none of them were going to sell. The actual sales have been very steady and on the rise in the last several months.

The 7200$ and some of the 6000$+ unlimited PSA 9 zards were probably shilled considering there were multiples copies with BIN less than the auction prices.

I’m pretty sure he’s talking about unlimited. I think a lot of the 1st edition base holos, especially charizard, are more protected from significant retraces due to their iconic status and low pops.

Gotcha. Yeah I wasn’t sure which version he was talking about. The unlimited have been on the rise lately as well. I’m not aware of any dip. I mean, I remember when I submitted my to-be 9 it was like 1.5k, and so seeing it around 5k or something around there seems to be quite the rise! hahah. Sometimes it is a shame I have to be so attached to every damn card. I wish I could have had a reserve pile to sell for these crazy money times. Alas…

1st ed base is a whole different beast, even to a set like ex deoxys which is notoriously scarce. I’ve seen you constantly overestimate the amount of 1st ed base product that was released and still exists. Of the top of my head you originally thought there was 100 million 1st ed base set cards printed?
