Just purchased a PSA 10 1st ed. Gym Challenge Brock’s Ninetales for 580 USD. Did I pay too much?

Yeah that’s what I tried comparing it with too, although I am unsure what the popularity of each pokemon besides the base set trio is. Thanks! I love the ability on the Ninetales, was a really powerful meta back then.

Tough to compare the two, unfortunately. Brock’s Rhydon is pop 86 and Brock’s Ninetales is pop 239. But Ninetales is also more popular (I believe?) than Rhydon. Still, the Ninetales has 3x as many PSA 10s so I have to imagine that it’s worth quite a bit less than the Rhydon. I have no clue if you got it for a good price or not, but the pop differential is definitely worth considering. Congrats on the purchase, regardless – it’s a beautiful card.

It just all happened so fast. I know that no one can predict the future…but in your opinion: is the best time to sell Jungle/Fossil right now or do you think the spillover demand from Base will spike these sets even further? I really hate to sell these sets but there are cards I’d just much, much rather own at the prices these sets are fetching now.

Hell yeah it does. I have several raw PSA ~8 quality no symbol holos on eBay that I just increased the price on significantly. I’m honestly surprised they didn’t sell at the prices I was asking. No symbol seems to not be spiking nearly as much, but I expect that this will change if Unlimited Jungle continues to spike.

Definitely solid advice. There are honestly just cards I’d much prefer to own now that the prices on Jungle/Fossil have seemingly quadrupled lol.

I personally think all the Jungle/Fossil commons and uncommons are heading for a crash because PSA is going to be absolutely flooded with those cards.
I don’t really follow Unlimited Jungle as much but in the case of 1st edition I do believe in the value of the holos just because those cards are so hard to grade and the populations are really small, and they’re Gen 1 rookie cards that appeal to the same crowd that Base Set appeals to. And unlike the commons / uncommons I don’t think there are hoards of gem mint holos stashed away in people’s collections.
The fact that the holos are a tough grade is kind of the saving grace of the set from a supply perspective, because you do see those 1st edition boxes moving on eBay in a weekly basis.
But in short, Jungle holos - solid buy / hold. Jungle non-holos - make your plans to sell them within the next few months.

Now they are going for $40-60 and climbing fast, there were thousands of thousands available. Obviously this is an awesome looking card so it was just a matter of time.
