The Fanatics Collect [formally PWCC] Megathread

I’ve always wondered what the hell PWCC is doing with these cards. Almost every card I get from PWCC the case is scratched to hell, covered in sticky residue, etc. Usually nothing a PlastX wipe-down can’t handle but still pretty annoying. They also put those damn stickers right on the case that are sometimes hard to peel off and leave even more residue. Really annoying.

Hey i was just about to ask if the stickers can be removed easily, i’ve been on and off if i should leave the sticker there in case the residue is difficult to get off but can you share tips how to remove the sticker/residue in an effective way? It’s my first slab from fanatics auctions and it’s a playtest card so i’m quite hesitant to do anything about it in case something goes extremely wrong. I’ll tag @A.P.Speeze too since it looks like you are expert about it

I curl up a corner with my finger until I can just grab it, then slowly pull it off making sure it doesn’t stick. They usually come off pretty clean. There’s always sticky residue left at the corner I curl up so I end up having to clean it off with a towel and water. Then there are times it just won’t come off cleanly no matter what. Here are examples of both.

I’m sure someone else has a better way to do it because I always end up spending 30 to 60 minutes cleaning off residue while watching anime or something.

isopropyl alcohol should work. I’ve only also used it to remove stickers on glass, rather than plastic.

I really like goo-gone, it’s an adhesive remover!
I use a tiny bit at a time and spend a while making sure it’s all rubbed off. I normally finish the whole slab with plast x anyway as I find there’s always scratches not shown in scans.

I think it’s worth practicing using goo gone on something cheaper to get the feel for how it works too. I’ve used it removing stickers from sealed video games, so it’s very gentle.

I use a tiny bit of coconut oil. Natural and smells great :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Can anyone confirm the import fees will be waived if I send a bunch of my cards home to Toronto from the Fanatics vault?

I have no idea but I absolutely would not try personally. Just took out 15k from the vault today and sent to a US address

Edit: I have a better idea now:

Pokemon cards are GST exempt during the tax holiday. It fits under the “card games, including playing cards and games that include trading cards” category. Not sure exactly how they would look at higher-value imports of graded cards or if that’s a separate category. @bajma would probably need to get Fanatics to explicitly label the shipment as Pokemon cards because all sports cards and other collectible items are not exempt.

I agree it’s probably not worth the risk.

This CBC article says Pokemon cards are included:

The problem is that the whole thing is ham-fisted and there will be grey zones that aren’t fully clear. CBC says Pokemon cards are included, but there’s a difference between off-the-shelf box sets and graded slabs. The official site says very explicitly the cards need to be for “play” and “for children under 14”. A literal reading would say that slabs would not qualify. Could they slip through? Absolutely. I wouldn’t risk it though.

Ill probably give it the ol college try at some point and let u guys know what happens. Have a ton of stuff i need to bring back home from the vault anyway

I have a card that has gone unpaid for the second time. I submitted this card on September 29th to the CGC grade then auction service, and I have still yet to actually fully sell it at auction after them having it for 3 months. This means that by the time they schedule it again, and if I’m lucky enough to have it paid for this time, I probably won’t actually receive money for it until almost February.

What is the point of advertising 24 hour grading with CGC if this is the end result? What does it even matter how quickly the card is graded if it’s then going to rot in a pile for 3 weeks before going to auction? When it goes unpaid, why does it need to rot in that same pile for another 3 weeks again? It seems to me like they’re putting in all of this effort to speed up a part of the process that isn’t even the bottleneck.

Again, I understand they can only do so much to combat non paying buyers, but putting your card to the back of the already insanely slow auction line is not the solution.

That is pretty crazy! My last auction block had one single unpaid card. I wonder if for some reason it’s the specific card. Also I don’t sell many cgc cards so maybe that is a factor. Either way that’s extremely unlucky. I’d be frustrated too, non paying buyers are human garbage.

Can i ask what is the normal wait time for sending in a card to be auctioned?

It’s a Charizard promo from the Ultra Premium Collection. Which, for the record, I fully recognize that a Charizard promo graded with CGC is probably the exact type of thing that would attract non paying buyers like moths to a flame.

My point is more about how it’s handled rather than that it happened at all. Non paying buyers suck but probably aren’t going anywhere. It’s just frustrating that the card gets sent back to the scheduling line as a result.
