I have been editing some Pokemon cards and posting them on insta lately thought you guys might like this one, especially @e2d2 or maybe not poor Cubone too sad
“Cubone pines for the mother it will never see again. Seeing a likeness of its mother in the full moon, it cries. The stains on the skull the Pokémon wears are made by the tears it sheds.” - ORAS pokedex entry
Yeah Kangashkan is the mother, someone asked Arita when he was in Europe and he confirmed, was in that thread about the Italy meetup. I think the lore is Cubone evolves into Marowak once it finally accepts the loss of its mother lol poor Cubone
Oh The Cubone-Kangaskhan mystery. Definitely one of my favorites. Isn’t it no tragic mother loss it becomes a healthy Kangaskhan and if it loses it’s mother it’s Cubone (wearing the skull) —> Marowak lineage?
This is awesome! This is my favorite card (spoiler alert for @charchu 's giveaway). That little tear just gets me every time. Actually everything about that card is heart wrenching, which makes cubone even more adorable to me. Apparently I have a penchant for sad Pokémon, like that poor little lonely EX Omanyte
Also, shizzle (aka James… Not sure why that blew my mind, but it did. ), I didn’t realize you had an Instagram! I love how you use the multiple images feature as a “reveal”. It’s really creative and I hope you do more like that. This might sound a little crazy, but you could totally use that style to simulate a “pack opening” feeling of anticipation for the second/third images. Its like…ok I know I’m going to see (or probably see) card x, but I wonder what the edit will be.
@e2d2 I thought you might like it I am also drawn to darker themes for some reason as well. Yeah started insta about a month ago pretty fun! Not sure what you mean by the build up, meaning have the original card as 1st image?
That’s how I experienced the Kangasgkhan/cubone post. I thought I was looking at the original card (didn’t notice the moon at first) and the last scene totally got me! I looked forward to “opening” each image to see what the transformation was, if that makes sense. If you saved the edited version for last, you’d definitely maximize the suspense. I can understand wanting to have a feed full of the edited cards, though! And it’s still a great experience even with the final version as the first image However you do it, we’ll all still be looking forward to see what you created!
