Something that came to my mind recently.
Arcanine is considered to be a legendary Pokemon (see here:
Thread).
Be it legendary or not it represents or is inspired by a mythical lion figures in chinese culture. There are two different but similar figures one of them is called Qilin (麒麟) and the others are ShiShi (石獅). ShiShi means stone lion . Also here is a good article about this for reference.
This is nothing new so far. But :
That explains why Arcanine got a set dedicated to him or at least putting it on the booster and booster box artwork in simplified chinese “Fearless Terestal” and a exclusive SAR Arcanine EX in simplified chinese. To me at first this felt a bit random why Arcanine got a set and SAR like this.
Thinking about it like that it makes a whole lot of sense now to me.
