Hey y’all. Can you guys tell me if these blisters have been tampered with? Very interested in the lot, but looking closely at the auction photos, it looks as if they’ve been re-sealed. The listing description also states no guarantee that they haven’t been tampered with. Let me know what you guys think!
Without having them in hand I can’t say with 100% certainty, though it does appear that they are resealed. It’s odd the way he describes the items and seals as “not guaranteed” as it kinda leans into the suspicion.
I also find it hard to believe that someone dealing in brand new & very recent product releases (based on his previous sales) claims to have found these all in a storage locker, per his story.
So I see multiple red flags, and wouldn’t bid myself.
To me it doesn’t look tampered. Old blisters are very well known to have the glue stop working and the plastic separate from the cardboard. The rest of the seal other then the spot in question looks good.
On another note, what an incredible storage locker find!
As someone who has bought over 15 1st ed base set blisters over the 6 years I started collecting them ( I’m currently the seller with the 10 listed on eBay), I myself have never seen the glue so visible like that on the edge with it being supposedly fully sealed. However, he said they were in a storage where it was probably hot which could have an effect on the glue so they could possibly still be legit.
I have those too, but look at the “d” in “deck” on the 4th picture and you’ll see it’s not just glue degradation; the paper is torn & separated from the blister card. It might be fine but I wouldn’t bet the $4,500 (@ $1500/ea.) it takes to find out, especially since the seller himself dissolves himself from any responsibility of your eventual findings. I couldn’t recommend it.
Ya I’m by no means coming close to that auction because of the fact I’ve never boughten blisters like that before. If I personally was interested you better believe I would ask him for more detailed pictures of those blisters and with a picture of him pulling that flap back on each one. The corners can indeed become a little worn but the fact it’s that big is enough of a red flag for me to pass on. Also this is his second time listing them, which makes me further question them.
Thanks for all the reply’s, ladies and gents! Based on the information received here and research i’ve done independently, i’ve decided against pursuing this auction any further. Too many “what if’s” and uncertainties. Thanks again for the info!
