'Superior Fit' CGC Sleeves - Literally Not Working?

Warning: This company’s return/refund policy is very strict and so this thread is a possible warning to other buyers, but also to see what others’ experience has been like. I have reached out to customer service but based on their return/refund policy I’m not expecting much.

I have regular Pokemon cards in regular CGC slabs (holders).

I ordered the “1200” model sleeves from Superior Fit Innovations, specifically designed for CGC slabs.

I have tried multiple of these sleeves on multiple CGC slabs that have no additional protection of any kind already on them prior to trying these sleeves.

  • Not a single one has fit an entire slab. At absolute best it gets roughly half-way despite tremendous physical force and literally minutes of effort. (And of course it should never take that long to put on a single sleeve).

  • MULTIPLE literally break at the seam before getting half-way.

I don’t know if CGC has changed their slabs since these sleeves were designed or if I got a faulty batch of sleeves, but there is absolutely no way I would recommend these from my experience.

It is far better to have a slightly loose sleeve than a sleeve that literally doesn’t work.

Anyone have experience with these specific (CGC) sleeves?

@lhh ,

It is most likely a faulty batch. You should follow up with SFI, it should be their responsibility since the sleeves didn’t even fit.

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

I’m curious when the slabs were made thicker.

I e-mailed Superior Fit and got a response from their President/CEO. He asked for the measurements of the slabs. I look forward to his next response.

Here’s what I found:

79mm x 134mm x 7mm

@lhh, CGC Slabs had a redesign pretty early on around December 2020 I’d say to have a thicker slab to sonic weld the slab tighter as the original design slabs were easy to take apart. Recently CGC had another redesign or have presumably started using their sports slabs to fit pokemon cards, no word from CGC as to why as far as I know.

In terms of Superior Fit Innovations Sleeves the old and newly redesigned sleeves both have ‘1200’ however the difference is noted by “tapered flap for clean smooth appearance” (Old) vs “The ORIGINAL” (New) - ironic I know.

The ‘tapered flap for clean smooth appearance’ is very tight and requires force to slide the sleeve fully unto the slab and can cause the sleeve to tear as you noted. The older slabs are around 6mm thick compared to the newer slabs which are around 7mm, 1mm thicker.

@sanzonw , I appreciate the detailed response. However, my bags are “The Original” variety, and the sleeves are repeatedly tearing without much force even though I’m trying to be careful everytime. MEANWHILE, my regular team-bags fit perfectly around the CGC slab and are a breeze to put on (obviously they aren’t tall enough to fully cover a graded card but I’m trying to communicate that the fit around the body of the slab that I’m experiencing with those team-bags should be what I’m supposed to experience with the Superior Fit sleeves).

Superior Fit is sending me new sleeves free of charge. I’m hoping that the sleeves I currently have were the old ones that just accidentally got packaged into “The Original” packaging. These are ripping way too easily for this to be intentional for 7mm. I have not been able to sleeve a single CGC slab with these.

This is funny because I have the exact opposite problem. I ordered the regular PSA ones and the thicker premium (401) ones. The regular ones are either too loose or very tight with there being big differences within the same bag. The 401 are extremely loose but at least it’s consistent. I bought their newer CGC ones and those fit perfectly. Overall, I really enjoy the product, However, the the consistency is the biggest issue I have with them. Hopefully your next batch of sleeves fits perfectly.

@lhh, yeah there’s definitely an issue with yours as I tested about 7 different packs and each sleeve fits the newer 7mm slabs with one hand easily, please update us when you test out the new sleeves. I purchased mine on March 1st 2021. So there could have been some issue transitioning to the newer sized sleeves.

@hisoka107, I didn’t even know they had ‘premium’ psa sleeves, I’m assuming they are just using a thicker plastic design, I tested about 4 regular psa sleeves and they seem consistent on my end although a bit tight where I broke one lol probably due to my error as I haven’t sleeved a psa case in a while.

I’ll take some pictures and share.
I really like the company and their products, but this last batch was all over the place with consistency.

@sanzonw, I ordered on July 19th, so yeah I have no idea. I’m using two hands and trying to be careful but they rip every time even when trying them from different bags.

Anyway when the new ones arrive of course I’ll try those too.

@sanzonw, you asked for an update. They sent me one of their “PSA GRADED JERSEY SWATCH CARD SLABS (50) *402*”

They’re slightly loose but at least they fit without breaking. Still no idea why “The Original” bags had probably their old sleeves that no longer fit the 7mm CGC slabs. I just freshly tried all 8 of “The Original” bags that I had ordered, every single one was too tight for the 7mm CGC slabs. So if they worked for you, they have some quality control issues in their pipeline.

Not sure why they would send that over when your problem exists with “the original” bags lol. Okay thanks for the update.
