Hello, I had this Pack for a long time and it has some weird surface damage (always had it since I bought it in 2017).
The Pack also feels different around these areas, sort of “crumbly” but still stable.
The weird thing is, its only on the silver surface.
As seen in picture 1+3 the Pokemon/Other designs printed onto the Pack are not affected. As seen in picture 2, the silver layer (under the printed design) is still affected.
I am happy for any ideas/theories/experience you might have for me!
My first thought is heat related. Any chance it could have been exposed to a concentrated reflection of sunlight? Some substances will bubble and wrinkle this way.
Since i’ve had them not really, always stored well protected, away from the sun or heat or similar. But of course maybe before that. But could sun / heat damage only the inside/main layer? How I said, the designs are printed over the damage, so the heat wouldve needed to really only attack that one layer.
Just checked a couple that I have. The back ripples are very prominent. I am assuming we are all talking about the same thing. These are ADV base packs. I also feel that these ripples look very proounced on packs which are silver and have no art or print on it.
The wrinkles as I see in your picture are quite normal. In my case I would call it a damage though, and its not the same. Its a clear damage in the foil of the pack. And yes, heat damage would make sense, but this doesnt explain that the layers with printed Pokemon are not affected
Relatively recently was playing with a heatgun for unrelated reasons but one of the things I noticed is that the way something is effected is highly dependent on its materials. There were several times when top layers would take longer to be effected by the heat as opposed to layers beneath beginning to bubble or wrinkle. So the ink or coating of the top layer could be more resistant than layers beneath it. Humidity can also do weird things like separating layering over time in odd ways.
Not saying thats what it is but wanted to share a possibility.
